Edgar: This is probably based on a known bug in the Audacity Nyquist interface. The values of the 'sliders' in the Audacity effect window seem to be re-computed from the pixel values of the slider as visible on-screen. Take for example the highpass or lowpass plugins, de-adjust the slider to another than the default value and apply the effect. If you afterwards apply the same effect again the slider in the effect window appears with a 'near-by' value but never with *exact* the same value than before. If I apply the snd-pluck function (as implemented in the 'pluck.ny' plugin) from the Nyquist Prompt (in the Audacity 'Effect' menu) I get the exact number of samples, so this is not a bug of Nyquist but a bug of the Audacity Nyquist interface. > If Selection Bar is set to "seconds", both plug-ins therefore show as > "000,000 seconds" at default settings. I first must try this with my CVS version at home, maybe another bug, but no exact idea off-hand. > A "Wound String" pluck I found on the list > http://www.nabble.com/Batch-and-plunck-td13159683.html#a13199236 > > by Paul Beach using "reson" actually does show as exactly 1 second > (but has no length control). This is a question for David Sky or Roger Dannenberg (or all others who are interested in generating sounds), my main 'audio edit' business is preparing microphone recordings for studio mixing (my 'real life' business is fixing mixing desks and other audio/video broadcast equipment) so I have no real huge knowledge in generating synthesizer sounds, what doesn't mean that I'm not interested, but I just have no great experience. > Do you want me to wait for any more comments from you about the length? As I wrote above, the length question is a topic for the Audacity developers list, because the problem is introduced by the Audacity effect window. - edgar ---------------------- original message was: ------------------------ Thanks Edgar - quick service too. About the length, in my CVS copy of Audacity I get 997 ms in the Selection Bar if I generate a 1 second pluck with your version using snd-pluck, and 996 ms with the old "pluck". If Selection Bar is set to "seconds", both plug-ins therefore show as "000,000 seconds" at default settings. A "Wound String" pluck I found on the list http://www.nabble.com/Batch-and-plunck-td13159683.html#a13199236 by Paul Beach using "reson" actually does show as exactly 1 second (but has no length control). I'm grateful to have a pluck that does not clip, anyway. Do you want me to wait for any more comments from you about the length? All I've done is change it so that the gradual control doesn't give you the abrupt pluck and vice-versa.
