Seems a near-perfect solution to me, subject to any comments Beinan has, and better than adding a Preference (at least until we can provide help for them all). Beinan should now be able to just spacebar after creating a label, control playback with hotkeys without changing focus, then SHIFT + A will stop and set the cursor allowing him to immediately type the label at that cursor position. It may confuse those who'll be switching direct from 1.2.x to 1.4.0 to find they now can't simply type to create a new label at the same place. Dragging a label leftwards is not that discoverable (needs to drag left edge left, then right-edge left), and cut and paste has the bug that you paste the system clipboard content instead of the label content. But if we are sure to document the new create-label-by-typing behaviour in the 1.4.0 manual, this seems a much better trade off for yourself and Beinan than what we had before. Gale |
