Some kind of tree view is wanted, but I can see this code changing a lot. This looks too experimental to be checked in to CVS head. If we had the extension plug ins system working well, I'd say make it into a plug in, and discuss any new hooks that are needed to make that work. Even though we don't, I still think that's the way to go. The technique I prefer is for plug ins to be able to add extra pages to the main view. Then we can start refactoring TrackPanel, making a track window that can be used outside a track panel, and we can run alternative views of the track panel in parallel with the standard view. We can't safely refactor TrackPanel until after 1.4.0 is released. I'd like to spend more time discussing this new feature and the related features right now. However, Audacity needs a 1.4.0 release urgently, and though fun to talk about the future features of Audacity, Audacity won't have a future unless we release 1.4.0. If you can help us with getting 1.4.0 released http://www.audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Release_Checklist that would free up more developer time to talk about the new features. Also we'd be able to start doing the TrackPanel refactoring, and actually using plug in extension modules, rather than wishing that we could. > What to do? On its own it feels incomplete - should not be checked in at this stage, i.e. not until we have 1.4.0 out. --James. |
