Also consider that during mixing a guy might just get all the balances ri= ght,=20 and then link all the gain controls together to create the master control= =2E =20 If you need to tweak one, unlink it, adjust it, and link the rest. Can t= he=20 gain controls be linked automatically separate from other track linking r= ight=20 now? Also, on some analog recorders (especially the old ones) there's actually= a=20 mechanical linkage on the volume controls. Usually this is there to keep= L/R=20 in sync, but I've seen them where you adjust the volumes and then throw t= he=20 mechanical linkage on to move them all at once. Um, also, I don't know how the Amplify effect works right now, but we may= =20 still need to be able to amplify a sample beyond its sampled volume. Man= y=20 samples taken low for fidelity's sake need to be amplified later and will= =20 have plenty of room over 140% or more (like my microphone) for more=20 amplitude. Either that or I don't know jack about recording, which is a=20 serious possibility. :) Also, after appying certain types of effects=20 (reverb and phaser come to mind) a sample will actually drop in volume, a= t=20 least compared to the rest of the music, and will need to be amplified ag= ain,=20 and may easily go over 100% (or even 200% if the effects are strong enoug= h).
