Hi, I am trying to work on Web site translation based on POT file 2012/02/29. When I loaded the old po file and update it with the POT file, an error message came up, which said "Internationalized message should not contain \r escape sequence" In fact, there are several lines that contains \r. Can anyone help me how to solve this problem? Thanks Atsushi YOSHIDA |

PS: There will be lots of incremental changes in the next few days. I'm gradually de-emphasizing and removing 1.2.6, so the whole site will be much more 1.3.14-oriented. Then I'll do another sweep of changes to replace 1.3.14 with 2.0. As these will happen in short order, probably best to wait on translation until the 2.0 set is complete. I will wait a while for the next couple of > days. Unfortunately, I haven't managed to "fix" http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/features-2.0 even by putting the new text for 2.0 in single strings. So although there is a new audacity_website.pot up, it has the same issue and will give warnings when you update from it. . \r is generated in the .pot going almost down to the bottom of the features 2.0 page. I assume there probably isn't a fix given the current length of that page without converting most of the page to single strings, which then breaks the whole translation of it. Possibly we don't need the features 2.0 page in that form anyway, but I'll discuss it with Vaughan off-list. Accordingly the "latest audacity_website.pot file" (last updated 2 March 2012) from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/community/translation is working again, though as Vaughan suggested it may be better to wait on web site translations until he lets you know the changes for 2.0 are complete. Hi, As I was waiting for a while and finally tried to start Web translation again using the POT file dated 2012/03/18. However, it still has the same problem, where \r escape sequences are included in the file and it generate many errors in Poedit program, so that I can't start translation. Can anyone share with me whether you have the same problem and if so how to avoid it. Thank you Atsushi YOSHIDA 2012/2/29 Atsushi YOSHIDA <ayo...@gm...> > Hi, > > I am trying to work on Web site translation based on POT file 2012/02/29. > When I loaded the old po file and update it with the POT file, an error > message came up, which said "Internationalized message should not contain > \r escape sequence" In fact, there are several lines that contains \r. > Can anyone help me how to solve this problem? > > Thanks > Atsushi YOSHIDA > > |

The problem you had with the 29 February POT file has (I think) been fixed but a new problem arose after adding a slash in news.inc.php which persists after removing the slash. So my message here: http://audacity.238276.n2.nabble.com/Updated-Dutch-translations-tp7349091p7384260.html still applies. I have tried doing a search for \r in my local POT file and replace it with nothing in order to update from POT, but that seems to create or leave behind other errors. If you can actually update the strings (including the \r's) you might be able to remove the \r's within poedit (if that is what you use) but if you try that I wouldn't translate more than one string to begin with because I am not convinced the PO file would save correctly. Vaughan said he would be looking at this problem, or I can try if he wishes. Yes, that's the one I meant. If that one also causes the \r, then it wasn't a matter of adding the slash. What difference does ownership make to the content of the file? I compared the working copy from trunk with that revision, and told WinMerge to check for differences in EOL. The only difference it found was the date -- no differences in EOLs. So I don't see any way the problem is related to this file. - V |

Looking at the site in SVN, a lot of new files have been committed. Unfortunately despite being PHP files, they were committed with CRLF line endings, and without setting the svn:eol-style property to "native". This meant the files were being checked back out with DOS line endings onto the Linux server where xgettext was being run. I think this was probably the cause of the stray \r sequences in the .pot files I have fixed the vast majority of the files in the site, but because some files were different on the server to in SVN (really different, not just white space), I haven't got them all yet. So the audacity_website.pot file is not fixed yet, but should be closer to being fixed. Richard |

I think all of those files were renamed and modified copies of existing files. But I used TortoiseSVN to Add then Commit them. I don't think I've ever had this problem with it before, so they must have introduced it. > > I think this was probably the cause of the stray \r sequences in > the .pot files Yes, most likely. > > I have fixed the vast majority of the files in the site, but because > some files were different on the server to in SVN (really different, not > just white space), I haven't got them all yet. Thanks, but probably some of that effort could have been avoided. There are a number of files that should probably just be removed. A lot of the PHP in them was more complicated than what's being used now, so I thought it might be good to have them around in case we ever wanted to reuse that code. But a lot of them are not currently linked to, so shouldn't be translated. I think there may be older ones that don't need to be translated. I'll go through and delete them both from SVN and the server. > > So the audacity_website.pot file is not fixed yet, but should be closer > to being fixed. Thanks! - V |

The default is then "As is (no specific EOL)". Never ran into that default being a problem before. I did a full-tree assignment to svn:eol-style being "native", and it changed all the non-php files. Do they also need "native"? - V |

If you do an SVN copy (preserving the history) then the properties are also kept. If you do an ordinary file copy, they they aren't kept when you do an Add. > Hmm, probably my accidental fault, because I created new directories for > some of these. Most SVN clients implement some sort of heuristic on file names / mime types to detect which files need to be given specific properties. These are however down to what the user doing the add has set up (seen by many as a design flaw). I suspect Tortoise may have something that catches .cpp and .h files and forces them, although I don't know. When we migrated to SVN I fixed and set properties for all the .cpp and .h files in the audacity source, it will be interesting to check whether any have crept since then. > I did a full-tree assignment to svn:eol-style being "native", and it > changed all the non-php files. Do they also need "native"? Depends what they are. Any binary files certainly shouldn't have it set (because you don't want character substitutions in binary data). Other text files probably should, although it's debatable whether it matters for things like the Makefile and README which are only likely to be altered on Linux because they are only useful there. HTML content is allowed (at least by any major browser) to have any line endings, or indeed none at all, as white-space is not significant in HTML. Richard |
