This is exactly why I emphasized the fact that I absolutely didn't care about how fast the convolution would be, if I knew that more time taken would make the approximation still closer to the expected result. When I made my own experiments wit frequency shifting many years ago, I often used delays as long as 80 ms (i.e. 160 ms was the whole filter length) and I did the convolution entirely in the time domain. As I've said before, it was only after reading your reply that I learned that it's also possible to do a similar thing via an IIR filter. I'll have to research this thing further to get a better understanding of it all. Even though I'm still more of a music theorist rather than a programmer, these related topics are among those that I'm quite interested in, so I think I'll have some good time with that. This Hilbert transform is a network of allpass filters so that we achieve the 90 ° shift throughout the spectrum and not just at the cut-off point. The phase spectrum gets naturally quite wild near DC and Nyquist frequencies. There's nothing preventing you from using a FIR implementation instead but you need nonetheless a lot of tabs to get a similar range, especially in the low frequencies. Wow, thanks for this super-important piece of information. Well, I'm sorry to say that but if that's the case, then I'm afraid that this particular filter won't be appropriate for my idea of feeding the freq-shifted signal back into the input. In order this thing worked properly, I need the Hilbert-transformed signal to always be delayed by an integer number of samples. The files import correctly in my current (3.0.3) build, so debug information from a new build will not be useful. My question is: Has bug 2748 been fixed, and if so, what fixed it? If it has been fixed, then bug 2748 can be closed as "Fixed". Seems to be an old OGG file ffmpeg2theora 0.23 is from 2008. I just converted a ~147 MB (320 Kbit/s) recording of a Deep Purple Concert which I extracted from a Sat TV HD recording to OGG (67,5 MB, 1536 Kbit/s). This file loaded nicely in 3.0.2 on Windows 10. Maybe Steve could start his Audacity build from gdb and grab a callstack by using the command bt within gdb I hope he did not strip the binaries and hope symbol information is available so someone of you could take a look at it. I have a stereo ogg file that James supplied me with a while back. It imports fine, on W10, into 3.0.2 and latest alpha Audacity 3.0.3 b1f05e5 Peter. This looks like Bug 2748 - Ogg decoding can hang (old vorbis library) The problem is described below, but the file imports correctly into the Audacity 3.0.3 alpha b1f05e Has it been fixed? Audacity 3.0.2 release build. Xubuntu 20.04 LTS. The file: Format : Ogg File size : 14.9 MiB Duration : 4 min 52 s Overall bit rate mode : Variable Overall bit rate : 426 kb/s Writing application : ffmpeg2theora-0.23 Audio ID : 30788 (0x7844) Format : Vorbis Format settings, Floor : 1 Duration : 4 min 52 s Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 500 kb/s Channel(s) : 2 channels Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 17.5 MiB Writing library : aoTuV Beta 5 (UTC 2006-10-24) Looking in "/var/tmp/audacity-steve/" neither the .aup3unsaved or .aup3unsaved-wal are increasing in size, but Audacity is thrashing one CPU core at 100%. The file plays correctly in other apps. Testing a short Ogg file created with Audacity does not have this problem. Although Max's compressor is superior to the currently shipped compressor, without the benefit of real-time preview it is rather more complicated to use than the current one. Removing the current compressor will also break any macros that use it, and we wouldn't want to do that without very good reason. > > Peter. > > >> >> Which piece of code controls if an effect is enabled by default? Hi Steve, it would be no problem for me if the effect will be disabled by default. I agree, that this would help resolving the realtime issue in a separate change. Which piece of code controls if an effect is enabled by default? In my development builds I always had to enable it manually.
