Gosh having lots of issues with the new release. Can anyone think of anything other than the following that would cause directmedia=yes to not work: 1. Compatible codecs 2. Dial Options e.g. T,t ,L etc 3. Video 4. DTMF Regards Michael Knill |

I tested it with Cloudflare (as described in the Wiki) and it works fine for me. Michael http://www.mksolutions.info |

Greetings, Given the recent pre-release, I want to follow-up discussing the addition of ACME (Let's Encrypt) certificates. I must say, when Let's Encrypt was first announced in 2015 I was skeptical how useful this would be with AstLinux, and frankly it initially wasn't too practical since a HTTP query was the only challenge validation method. For AstLinux, public HTTP/HTTPS access is not the default and discouraged, and for some installations AstLinux may be behind another router. In 2016 Let's Encrypt added ACME DNS challenge support, which was a game-changer for AstLinux. Rather than proving you own a domain by creating a random HTTP public reachable file, you can use a DNS provider that supports DNS records to be created and removed, often via an API. Your AstLinux box does not even need to be publicly reachable inbound, as long as you can prove you control the DNS for a domain, you can issue and renew a globally valid certificate for an internal host, for a specific domain you own. While AstLinux may be the edge device with a public facing interface, typically few (if any) services are exposed to the public side. So what is the value of a globally valid certificate over a self-signed certificate ? HTTPS) Web browsers are getting less and less tolerant of accessing sites with self-signed certificates. For HTTPS phone provisioning, some IP Phones (ex. Yealink) default to validating certificates. Also useful with the stunnel HTTPS proxy. SIP-TLS) Mobile SIP clients are much easier to setup with certificate validation enabled with a globally valid certificate. (BTW, iOS Bria still has an issue here with validation enabled for SIP-TLS, though XMPP validation works fine) XMPP) XMPP clients are much easier to setup with a globally valid certificate, and in some case required along with SRV records for the domain. LDAP) Many LDAP clients are configurable with the choice of no encryption sending LDAP queries and responses in the clear, or securely with LDAP over SSL which often requires a globally valid certificate. Keep in mind that even if client access is over a VPN, globally valid certificates can be very useful and convenient. All of you reading this, at some point in time, will want to create a Let's Encrypt certificate for select AstLinux installations. Here is is the basic documentation: ACME (Let's Encrypt) Certificates https://doc.astlinux-project.org/userdoc:tt_acme_certificates As the documentation suggests, you need both a domain name and a DNS hosting service that is supported by acme.sh (Cloudflare is free for basic features). You must point your domains's name servers to the DNS hosting service's servers. The DNS API's 1-29 listed here: https://github.com/Neilpang/acme.sh/blob/master/dnsapi/README.md are in the recent AstLinux pre-release. Now is a good time to understand and test how ACME (Let's Encrypt) Certificates can be used in AstLinux. Lonnie BTW, a special thanks to David Kerr for testing and creating the "astlinux" deploy script used in acme.sh, wrapped by our acme-client command. David also was able add FreeDNS support upstream to acme.sh. |

Hmm so it obviously works in Astlinux! I use chan_sip Why are your counts so low. Stuffed if I know what is doing it! Michael, Is rolling back to Asterisk 11 a possibility for you, or are you using some of the new 13 features ? If you are the only person reporting this task processor warning in AstLinux, it may be a configuration issue, slow AMI handler, etc. unique to your setup. http://lists.digium.com/pipermail/asterisk-dev/2016-June/075616.html Lonnie On Jul 19, 2017, at 9:33 PM, Michael Knill <mic...@ip...> wrote: > No nothing I could find that actually helped. Hi >From mailing list and documentation I saw interest about adding sip proxy to astlinux. There is Mid-registrar module in Opensips that without any change in Astlinux can help increase its capacity: " The mid-registrar is a mid-component of a SIP platform, designed to work between end users and the platform’s main registration component. It opens up new possibilities for leveraging existing infrastructure in order to continue to grow (as subscribers and as registration traffic) while keeping an existing low-resources registrar server. Convert incoming high-rate registration traffic into a low-rate variant, towards the main registrar layer. With proper configuration, it can absorb over 90% of existing registration traffic while preserving the back-end’s user location state, effectively reducing resource usage at the respective layer." https://www.opensips.org/Documentation/Tutorials-MidRegistrar Regards M.Shirazi |

Hi Lonnie, many thanks for that. We are definitely on the same page. Feeling similarly after writing you yesterday, I began to setup a vanilla instance of Asterisk for the very purpose of going through the excersise of getting acquainted with the configuration files just as you suggested. :-) So now I have the phones calling eachother and I am working through configuring the outbound/inbound calls. Hi Nate, I found the UniFi VoIP provisioning info ... UniFi VoIP - DHCP Option 66 Auto Provisioning Guide(Post 4.7) https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/213546207-UniFi-VoIP-DHCP-Option-66-Auto-Provisioning-Guide-Post-4-7- Taking a step back, it occurs to me you may want to just play with these phones and AstLinux and not necessarily auto-provisioning at this point. AstLinux requires you to understand how to configure Asterisk via text .conf files. While this has a learning curve, you have full control of the resulting PBX, down to the finest detail. So many times reported here, "I tried the XYZ GUI, it was nice at first, but eventually I had to configure raw Asterisk conf files to get it the way I wanted". So, learn Asterisk if you have not already. Start with configuring your UniFi VoIP phones via their GUI and manually add the matching SIP credentials in AstLinux's Asterisk. Create a simple dialplan (extensions.conf) to send and receive calls. This is a good skill to have. After you are comfortable with Asterisk, only then you may consider auto-provisioning the UniFi VoIP phones per the docs above. Hi Lonnie, thanks for the response. The phones seem alright. I've only just begun to test them so I don't have very much experience with them yet. I have been through configuring them to work with FusionPBX and a couple different SIP providers and the call quality seemed decent enough; But again I'm not sure how much the quality reflected the phone or the SIP provider. They are Android based with a touch screen which makes the interface for configuring them fairly pleasant. They look/feel nice enough to use FWIW... Regarding the templates, your comments are most welcome as I had run diff against some of the files to see if I could get an idea of where they were similar and different. I'll revisit the yealink.conf to for another look. Ubiquiti has a Quick Start Provisioning Guide (PDF) online here <https://dl.ubnt.com/guides/unifi_voip/UVP_Quick_Provisioning_UG.pdf> with references to Asterisk and a handful of other PBX's. Many thanks again. I'm enjoying the introduction to this technology. Hi Nate, First, how do you like those phones ? As for the phone provisioning template file, keep in mind that only the [phoneprov] section is unique to the phone and possibly a few lines in the [general] section, take a look at templates/yealink.conf . Do you have any reference how the UniFi UVP phones are provisioned ? XML via HTTP/HTTPS ? Naming convention for the downloaded XML files ? Good day everyone, I'm a system admin just getting started with SIP/PBX/VoIP technology. I have the SIP trunk setup and am now just trying to get a couple of UniFi UVP phones configured to test with. I've read the docs on IP Phone Provisioning Getting Started, and IP Phone Mass Deployment but neither is clear on what to do if there the phones you have are not included with the default templates and looking at the templates it appeared they all had specific settings for their respective phones. I also didn't see a generic template to use as a boilerplate either. Can anyone please help clarify what I should do to create a template for these phones? Many many thanks in advance, Nate. |

Hi, Digium has updated their core sounds to version 1.6. Adding the New Zealand en_NZ language core sounds. The web interface System tab has been updated with language [english-nz] in the SVN, but if you want to hear a New Zealand accent now, from the command line: (Show the current installed sounds) CLI> upgrade-asterisk-sounds show (Add the en_NZ core sounds using the ulaw CODEC) CLI> upgrade-asterisk-sounds upgrade core en_NZ ulaw (Show the current installed sounds) CLI> upgrade-asterisk-sounds show Lonnie |

One of many nodes I have set up for our private Telephone Collectors Network was just removed from service for an update. An old HP 55XX thin client with AstLinux .5 !! No spinning platters or fans to wear out The user never had an issue with the hardware or AstLinux. Although never high traffic, and not used as a router, it was available 24/7, never an issue with the flash or power supply, and recovery after a power outage was never an issue It was replaced with an HP 5720, and a late version of AstLinux with Asterisk 11 ( No funny CDR issues ).
