Thanks Nic, Using your config file I still had to remove openssh, but after I did that the make completed and I was able to build a jffs2 file. I have not yet has a chance to try it out but thanks for the help. Much appreciated! I am sure I will be posting more questions as I get farther :) |

You'll then need to rm -rf build_arm_nofpu to clean up any previous attempts at building, then do a make. My gumstix is a 400 xm connex + a netcf card, and this is configured at the very bottom of this file. Morning Nik, Were you able to successfully build an Astlinux image for the Gumstix and get it running? Would you be able to share the changes needed? Thanks, JZee |

I sent out an e-mail over two weeks ago telling everyone that I will be in Brazil for two weeks and that I might not be able to respond to issues as quickly as usual. Over the last two years I feel that I have been pretty responsive to people's issues and requests. Two weeks of limited availability out of two years seems pretty reasonable to me. I just got back, and I am only catching up with e-mail now. Work is underway to fix up the website. What specific issues have you noticed? Thank you for your patches. I have seen them but I haven't had the time to review them thoroughly and get back to you. Now that I am back, I will be getting around to them soon. As far as support for the Gumstix in general - you have to realize that because Gumstix is a fairly new platform for AstLinux, support is rather limited and the userbase is not that large at this point. With the upcoming release of AstLinux 0.5 and binary builds for the Gumstix this should change a little, but I doubt that it will ever be as widely adopted as the x86 builds. -- Kristian Kielhofner |

I'll try removing iptables as well and see if it builds. I guess I'll need to figure out what the impact will be of not having it. Too bad the project looks dead. Any more inof you find out about this project would be appreciated. Thanks, JZee |

The project is dead as far as I can tell. I also ran into trouble with the astlinux buildroot for the gumstix, and ended up removing iptables to get it to build. I didn't dig deep enough to determine what the problem was. I have submitted several issues and patches that past week, and have gotten no response from anybody. The astlinux site is also in a state of dis-repair, which leads me to believe the project has stalled. Good Morning, I am a newbie to AstLinux and Gumstix but am hoping to learn quickly :) I have successfully rebuilt the Gumstix Buildroot, but when I attempt to build AstLinux I get an error in compiling iptables-1.3.6. I am using a Thoughtpolice FC5 VM Image running on a Windows machine. I did attempt to find if this error was already posted but do not seem to see much about astlinux. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place? Anyway, any help or pointers woudl be appreciated. Thanks! JZee Here is the output of a 2nd make after copying over the gumstix.config, doing a make oldoconfig and selecting only the netstix option and nothing else and then a make which failed as seen below. If this is not the appropriate info or forum please let me know. [astlinux@localhost trunk]$ svn update At revision 487. [astlinux@localhost trunk]$ make make PATH=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin:/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/toolchain_build_arm_nofpu/bin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin AR=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-ar AS=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-as LD=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-ld NM=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-nm CC=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-gcc GCC=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-gcc CXX=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-g++ CPP=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-cpp RANLIB=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-ranlib OBJCOPY=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-objcopy -C /home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/libelf-0.8.5 make[1]: Entering directory `/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/libelf-0.8.5' making all in lib make[2]: Entering directory `/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/libelf-0.8.5/lib' make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/libelf-0.8.5/lib' make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/libelf-0.8.5' make PATH=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin:/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/toolchain_build_arm_nofpu/bin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin AR=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-ar AS=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-as LD=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-ld NM=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-nm CC=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-gcc GCC=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-gcc CXX=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-g++ CPP=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-cpp RANLIB=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-ranlib OBJCOPY=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/arm-linux-uclibc-objcopy /usr/bin/install="install -D" \ instroot=/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir -C /home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/libelf-0.8.5 install make[1]: Entering directory `/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/libelf-0.8.5' making install in lib make[2]: Entering directory `/home/astlinux/astlinux/trunk/build_arm_nofpu/libelf-0.8.5/lib' dirs="/usr/lib /usr/include /usr/include/libelf"; when I build astlinux for gumstix, ssh ends up in the image, but sshd, scp, sftp, etc dont. they get built ok, they just dont end up in my image, and I'm a little intimidated by the buildroot scripts! |

the version of ntp is wrong in package/ntp/ntp.mk. In the latest svn snapshot (as of 12/12/06), the 'asterisk-n.n.n' folder needs a symbolic link to 'asterisk' in build_arm_fpu/ for the build to work nik |

Can you tell me what type of NIC you have? Try this: ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.11 netmask 255.255.255.0 (replace ip and netmask with proper values for your network) tcpdump -i eth0 -n -vvv (and in another session) ping [default gateway ip] In the tcpdump window, you should be able to see ICMP echo requests (maybe even replies :) ), arp activity, broadcast activity, etc. To permanently configure a static IP address, you can set the EXT* variables in /etc/rc.conf. Hi, I am just getting started with AstLinux 0.4.3 and the system boots but does= =20 not have networking. I look at ifconfig and eth0 and lo are there but there is no IP assigned. T= hat=20 is there is no 'inet addr'. I see in the messages that a dhcp lease was sought at least three times bef= ore=20 the system timed out and moved on in its booting. It is an Athlon 64 bit computer. The router is set up to issue IP's via dhcp and does so with other computer= s=20 on the net. Any advice as to what to do? I also tried to go to /etc/network/interfaces to manually configure the=20 interface but that file is not in AstLinux. Is there a way to manually configure the IP address on my host? If tried booting with and without the USB flash. I was able to configure th= e=20 USB flash using genkd and rebooted but that did not yield a network address= =20 or connection. Thanks Mark |

Hello everyone, AstLinux 0.4.2 has been released. Updates include: - Asterisk 1.2.10 - Zaptel 1.2.7 - libpri 1.2.3 - codec_g729a The Digium g729a codec has been included in this release. The codec has not been available since AstLinux 0.4.0 when the C library was switched to uClibc from glibc. A big thank you to Digium for recompiling the g729a codec. Of course you will still need to buy licenses, but at least it is possible again. Thanks Digium! Most of the updates have happened behind the scenes in development. AstLinux is in the process of moving to SourceForge and I am welcoming developers to help out wherever they can. You can check out source code, binaries, and more on the AstLinux project page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/astlinux/ -- Kristian Kielhofner |

Hello everyone, AstLinux is moving to SourceForge! I am currently in the process of configuring all of the services that sourceforge graciously offers. I hope that it will be a smooth transition, but there may be some bumps in the road along the way. I hope to have everything up by tomorrow... http://sourceforge.net/projects/astlinux/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/runnix/ (new bootloader)! P.S. - If you are already subscribed to any mailing lists on lists.kriscompanies.com/jail1.krisk.org you do not need to resubscribe to the sourceforge mailing lists. I have already added you! Please consider joining the astlinux-commits list if you are working with the development environment - it will allow you to see commits as they go in. -- Kristian Kielhofner |
