Paul, I tried Bitvise first, but the WinSCP was really easy to use. I was able to log into the Asterisk box without an issue and transfer files as if I was using another Windows machine. All, Thank you very much for the suggestions. I think I will give the bitvise a try first. I'll see what I can mess up using it. See postings earlier today on a related subject. I personally like the bitvise application with a file manager with two panes makes transfer from a local ( windows ) directory to the remote ( thin client ) No need for a flash drive or other sneakernet solution One word of caution: Make sure you get sound files in the correct directory, then use bitvise to check the file permissions are correct I believe the default is not correct and don't know if it can be changed so after transfer you need to change the permissions to match Other solutions presented may have different issues John Novack Cody Alderson wrote: > Hi, > > I have been making TTS files in Mp3 format, putting them on a flash drive from my Windows laptop, mounting the flash drive to the thin client running Astlinux, transferring the files from the flash drive to the thin client, and using Sox to convert them to ulaw. > > I was wondering if there was an easy way to transfer files from my laptop to Astlinux on the thin client directly without using the flash drive. I use bitvise SSH client ( https://www.bitvise.com ) which is nice as I can save profiles on folks I help, and it presents with an SSH window as well as a double pane file manager, one on my local LAN the other on the remote box. ALWAYS with SSH on a non standard port to keep the gremlins fooled of course. Different ways to "drain the swamp" that work. Each has their own strong and weak points of course. Actually SCP or SFTP is a pretty good suggestion... better than enabling FTP if you don't need it for anything else. Secure CP and Secure FTP actually operate over SSH and I expect you would want that enabled anyway for remote access. I recommend changing your SSH port from the standard 22 to something else random-ish so that you don't fall prey to automated scanners looking for vulnerable SSH hosts. If you're using SSH to get to the Astlinux box, you can also use WinSCP to set up a "drag and drop" screen for moving files. SFTP Net Drive Free will actually let you mount the Astlinux machine as another drive. The free version restricts one to just one account which should be fine for most users. I use both for different purposes. PDW On 8/13/2017 12:21 PM, David Kerr wrote: > I use FTP to move files onto Astlinux. I use FTP to move files onto Astlinux. Note that I do not open FTP on the external interface, only internal.... so I have to OpenVPN in if I want to FTP from outside my network. Astlinux can also mount NFS or SMB remote file servers. But that is not as lightweight as FTP... and there is a problem shutting down if a SMB server is still mounted. Hi, I have been making TTS files in Mp3 format, putting them on a flash drive from my Windows laptop, mounting the flash drive to the thin client running Astlinux, transferring the files from the flash drive to the thin client, and using Sox to convert them to ulaw. I was wondering if there was an easy way to transfer files from my laptop to Astlinux on the thin client directly without using the flash drive. I ask because I am probably going to relocate the thin client. I know Windows, and I even remember DOS. However, keep in mind I am just a novice with Linux and Asterisk. -Cody Alderson |

I have even used that AGI on my full Asterisk box, calling it twice for the two nearby airports Not all airport sources provide all the data all the time either The AGI is so nice it simply moves on to the next value. Lonnie, You said, "Starting with working examples (like weather.agi) makes customizing much easier than starting from scratch." That is how I am learning. I first learn of the potential to do something with Asterisk, then I see working examples and work to figure out how the code strings function. I search to find a teaching example of the strings that show all the options with their various separators such as commas, parenthesis and brackets. Then I experiment until I get something to work. I sometimes have problems trying to use something that has been deprecated, but that does not happen much. For example, it took another Asterisk user to inform me the pipe was replaced with the comma, and I just read on here how the semicolon apparently cannot be used to remark in the users.conf and one needs to use a # instead. I pick little things up here and there, and hope the info is accurate. Anyway, I am programming extensions for my CNET (Collector's Network at https://www.ckts.info/) as a fun hobby, but I have been learning things to implement in Asterisk for useful things as well. I was able to program a prayer request line with a local number that connects to a three option voice menu system. A few people I met through TCI (Telephone Collectors International) have also been helping me learn. The power potential of Asterisk is incredible, especially considering it is free to use. And to have Astlinux with a GUI made it possible for me to get started with a legacy Thin Client and very minimal expense or knowledge of how to make it work. Seeing various examples helps me figure out how to do what I want to do. Compared to many, my dialplan is probably quite rudimentary. However, it is evolving as I learn. My biggest concern is security as the attacks are relentless. I can edit the weather agi as far as actually accessing it and changing the strings, but I am not sure yet what to do to add in the other weather parameter options. I can find the sounds to play back, but I have to figure out the rest. It will give me something to work on to keep my mind from growing numb from my paying job. :) -Cody On Sat, Jul 29, 2017 at 10:07 AM, Lonnie Abelbeck <li...@lo... > wrote: > Hi Cody, > > Funny, I wrote that AGI script almost 10 years ago, and still use it > almost every day :-) > > The XML output of that source has additional fields you could key off of, > for example: > -- > < relative_humidity > 78 < /relative_humidity> > < pressure_in > 30.12 < /pressure_in> > < dewpoint_string > 64.8 F (18.2 C) < /dewpoint_string> > < dewpoint_f > 64.8 < /dewpoint_f> > < dewpoint_c > 18.2 < /dewpoint_c> > < visibility_mi > 10.00 < /visibility_mi> > -- > > and standard sound files: > -- > wx/humidity > wx/barometer > wx/dew-point > visibility > -- > > You could easily tweak the weather.agi AGI script to create a new > weather-full.agi AGI script off a different extension. > > Personally, I think the key to this being useful is to only provide the > basics so the voice output is minimal and to the point. Hi Cody, Funny, I wrote that AGI script almost 10 years ago, and still use it almost every day :-) The XML output of that source has additional fields you could key off of, for example: -- < relative_humidity > 78 < /relative_humidity> < pressure_in > 30.12 < /pressure_in> < dewpoint_string > 64.8 F (18.2 C) < /dewpoint_string> < dewpoint_f > 64.8 < /dewpoint_f> < dewpoint_c > 18.2 < /dewpoint_c> < visibility_mi > 10.00 < /visibility_mi> -- and standard sound files: -- wx/humidity wx/barometer wx/dew-point visibility -- You could easily tweak the weather.agi AGI script to create a new weather-full.agi AGI script off a different extension. Personally, I think the key to this being useful is to only provide the basics so the voice output is minimal and to the point. But options are good. As you are learning, AstLinux is a foundation that you can tweak and customize to your needs. Indeed you need to understand Linux and shell scripting to some degree, definitely Asterisk text configuration. Starting with working examples (like weather.agi) makes customizing much easier than starting from scratch. Hi, I am using an agi found at https://abelbeck.com/lonnie/astlinux/info/weather.php to report temperature, wind and a few other basic current weather events. However, is there a weather reporting configuration for Astlinux that gives a more detailed weather report? Maybe something that can interpret a full METAR or some other weather data source into voice? I see that there is an extensive array of voice prompts dedicated to weather reporting in the sounds directory. Is there something that Astlinux can use to give a more detailed current condition report and maybe even a forecast? I am not sure of the limitations and just thought I would ask. -Cody |
