Lonnie, Save your money and buy a Netgear. Their managed switches are very reasonable, quiet and work well. This is a 24 port switch with 12 POE ports and 2 additional Gigabit ports (that can be joined to create a 2 gig trunk). The vlan feature is very easy to work with. It's also priced around $300. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122077 Darrick Lonnie Abelbeck wrote: > I am in the market for a web-managed, 8-port, 10/100 PoE switch for > SPA-942 IP Phones. > > I prefer HP Procurve switches, and really like the new web-managed > 1700 and 1800 series (VLAN configuration so simple a caveman could do > it), but the fine folks at HP say a PoE option is not in the near > future for that platform. > > The Allied Telesis AT-8000/8POE looks like a good match to my needs. > (about $380 street) > http://www.alliedtelesyn.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=156&lid=42 > <http://www.alliedtelesyn.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=156&lid=42> > > Does anyone have experience with this switch, or have one to recommend. > > TIA > > Lonnie > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express > Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take > control of your XML. I am in the market for a web-managed, 8-port, 10/100 PoE switch for SPA-942 IP Phones. I prefer HP Procurve switches, and really like the new web-managed 1700 and 1800 series (VLAN configuration so simple a caveman could do it), but the fine folks at HP say a PoE option is not in the near future for that platform. The Allied Telesis AT-8000/8POE looks like a good match to my needs. (about $380 street) http://www.alliedtelesyn.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=156&lid=42 Does anyone have experience with this switch, or have one to recommend. TIA Lonnie |

The method you guys describe is actually the way I was finally able to get it to work ... I figured I was breaking at least 20 or 30 rules by doing it this way and thought I had just misunderstood the way it was really supposed to be done ... The snippets Lonnie provided are great and go a long way to filling in some gaps in my understanding of what the heck is going with this ... Fact is I managed to get the darn thing to work, I just had no idea of how or why it worked ... A very dim bulb just lit up so I think I may actually have a handle on it with a bit more practice ... Lonnie, I forgot that you convinced me to include that option ;) If a statically defined openvpn.conf file is located in /mnt/kd/openvpn then that file will be used (regardless if any of the openvpn variables are defined in rc.conf. if [ -f /mnt/kd/openvpn/openvpn.conf ] then echo "Using OpenVPN config file from keydisk" ln -sf /mnt/kd/openvpn/openvpn.conf /tmp/etc/openvpn.conf else echo "Creating OpenVPN config files" So in Gary's case, he'll want to put a proper client config file in /mnt/kd/openvpn. The specific link on the openvpn page that describes this is here: http://openvpn.net/howto.html#client Make sure you save the file as openvpn.conf You would get the certificates from your pfsense box. I have had great success using AstLinux 0.4.5 as an OpenVPN server. I run in single interface mode (PBX-only). The basic HowTo is at the general OpenVPN site: http://openvpn.net/howto.html copy the /stat/etc/openvpn directory and contents to to /mnt/kd/openvpn Set in rc.conf: VPN=openvpn IMHO, don't use (leave commented out) the rc.conf openvpn variables, but rather configure by editing /mnt/kd/openvpn/openvpn.conf based on the the above howto. Enclosed is my working openvpn.conf file for the server. The easy-rsa scripts are included to build your keys for the server machine. After a half hour of studying the openvpn.net site you should be prepared to make it work. Special notes on my openvpn.conf: 1) I use "ifconfig-pool-linear" since I don't use any windows clients. 2) I create my own ipp.txt file containing one line for each client, eg. client50,10.11.10.50 client51,10.11.10.51 3) On the client (openvpn.conf) side I use either: # Send all traffic through vpn redirect-gateway def1 or # Send specific local traffic through vpn route 10.10.10.0 255.255.255.0 route 10.10.20.0 255.255.255.0 What often stumps people is OpenVPN's virtual subnet that is created, and must be different from any of your existing subnets. I use m0n0wall as my router/firewall, using AstLinux as your router/ firewall might take some tweaking to get the routing correct for your situation on the server side. Please post your results. No problem. You'll see a more disruptive change when we move to 0.5. It's necessary to help reduce the disruption in the future. > > All of my target machines are running in gateway mode ... they are all > Via C3 CPU machines ... during the build process I noted the option to > choose optimization for Via CPU's and did select this option ... Right now it really doesn't do too much. We could reduce the number of drivers (since it does use it's own .config for the kernel) and we could build padlock features into openssl (and therefore openvpn). > I could use some instruction on how to properly setup OpenVPN within > Astlinux ... I have some pretty decent cookie cutter "step 1, step 2" > type things for OpenVPN in general but nothing specific to the way it > is implemented in Astlinux ... is there such a document out there ??? > anybody got a link to it ??? There are several ways to use OpenVPN. There were several additions to the rc.conf file related to openvpn in the 0.4.5 release. Looks like we may need to add a few more variables to allow openvpn to start as either a client or a server. Right now, the config is geared towards a server. Please add this as a feature request on the tracker at the sourceforge page. > while nobody at the main office was watching, I did a quick CF card > install on this machine to test if your recent Wanpipe efforts bore > fruit ... It's good to have confirmation that the Wanpipe implementation works. If anyone would like to contribute to the project, this would be a good way. In FreePBX, the CDR data is most likely in a mysql database. The closest we could achieve would be sqlite. It hasn't been a need/priority for me so far, so it's not something I've really looked at too much. Darrick -- Darrick Hartman DJH Solutions, LLC http://www.djhsolutions.com |

Most of the advantages it offers over meetme have been built into meetme in 1.4 so it's probably a good candidate for removal. -- Kristian Kielhofner |

I implemented Astlinux 0.4.5 on four of my five branch office machines on Tuesday and Wednesday after testing in the lab last weekend... deployment went smoothly and did not run into anything odd ... the fact that the update did not cause any disruption of service was noted and appreciated ... All of my target machines are running in gateway mode ... they are all Via C3 CPU machines ... during the build process I noted the option to choose optimization for Via CPU's and did select this option ... I was wondering, if there is indeed code in the package at this point that actually does take advantage of some of the unique features in the Via CPU or if this is a placebo ??? I could use some instruction on how to properly setup OpenVPN within Astlinux ... I have some pretty decent cookie cutter "step 1, step 2" type things for OpenVPN in general but nothing specific to the way it is implemented in Astlinux ... is there such a document out there ??? anybody got a link to it ??? In my scenario, I have five branch office sites that link as clients using Astlinux to a main office firewall running pFsense ... I have been able to get it to work with trial and error but would love to get expert explanation of what the heck I did to made it work as it seems to be hit and/or miss every time I do it ... am tired of stumbling around in the dark and am looking to put a light on this process so I understand it better ... At the main office, we run a Trixbox PBX machine ... main reason I chose Trixbox for this one is that my boss wants his darn CDR reports and putting in TrixBox got him off my back with least effort ... this server also has a Sangoma A200 card w/hardware echo cancel in it which we use to connect to the PSTN ... in previous releases of Astlinux, I was unable to make the Sangoma card work ... while nobody at the main office was watching, I did a quick CF card install on this machine to test if your recent Wanpipe efforts bore fruit ... I was indeed able to get Astlinux running on this computer and got it to recognize the Sangoma card ... I was able to configure and successfully test the Sangoma card ... so I am convinced your Sangoma Wanpipe implementation is now ready for prime time ... However, I am still left with Trixbox at the main office unless I can get my boss his CDR reporting using Astlinux ... is there any solution to CDR reporting for Aslinux that would be reasonably simple to deploy ??? I would need something that was at least very close to the functional level provided in the reporting module that is packaged with FreePBX ... so in summary my questions are ... 1) is the VIA CPU optimization doing anything real at this point ??? 2) is there a HOW TO out there somewhere that explains the OpenVPN config in Astlinux ??? an Astlinux to pFsense OpenVPN HOW TO would answer all my questions if there is such a thing ... 3) has anyone implemented for Astlinux a decent CDR reporting piece that is similar in functionality to the gizmo in FreePBX ??? if anyone out there has figured this out and written even the most cursory of instructions on how they did it, I would sure like to have a look ... I am not the sharpest tool in the shed but I am good at following instructions ... My thanks to the development team for their efforts G.Hendershot |

I am VERY much against the idea of an "Asterisk console". It appears that option also enables the console, which is a bad idea. If you enable an "Asterisk console" security on the system becomes non-existant. Anyone can walk up to the box and have full access to Asterisk AND the shell (using !) as the user running Asterisk (usually root). Not good. Consoles are not platform specific but the ability for a virtual terminal is limited to systems with VGA video and a PS/2 mouse and keyboard. Many AstLinux systems only have a serial port. I have never had problems using multiple v's or "set verbose". If we solve this issue, screen will work quite well! -- Kristian Kielhofner |

Tony, DMA is enabled in the install image because until now I hadn't considered that someone would install to CF from CD. That seems like an odd combination - most systems that have CF cards don't have CD drives. Anyways, you could have always just done "install ide=nodma" on the isolinux command line to disable DMA. Perhaps that should be the default. It is safe to disable DMA on any platform (certainly for the install), but it does slow down disk access significantly (which probably doesn't matter that much considering the amount of data that we are transferring for an install). -- Kristian Kielhofner |

Hello, AstLinux Development Environment is based on Buildroot, so you will find what you need in Buildroot documentation. http://buildroot.uclibc.org/buildroot.html Look for the section "Extending Buildroot with more Software". Basically, you need to create .in and .mk files, not exactly a trivial task, but not too complicated either. Niksa Baldun Tim Curtis wrote: > Hi All, > > Sorry I really am a noob.
