Yes the file
"/opt/perl/lib/site_perl/5.6.1/PA-RISC1.1-thread-multi/auto/ARS/ARS.sl"
exists in the specified location and also in the blib tree and a file
command says it's a shared library. I've tried running scripts as root =
to
check it's not a permission problem as well as the Remedy user.

Does the file
"/opt/perl/lib/site_perl/5.6.1/PA-RISC1.1-thread-multi/auto/ARS/ARS.sl"
exist at the specified location?=20
Can it be found in the "blib/"-tree of your build directory?=20
I've also seen problems in cases where the perl interpreter itself was
compiled with a different version of gcc than ARSperl, though I think =
that
would yield a different error message.

Yes I have checked the FAQ. We do have the shared API libraries and the =
code
compiles and links successfully. I have seen in Google that people have =
successfully installed ARSPerl as dynamic on HPUX. I would compile it =
as=20
static but searching Google produces lots of problems with compiling=20
"standard" perl on HPUX 11.0. Does anyone have a successful recipe for=20
compiling Perl on HPUX 11.0 using gcc with ARSPerl statically linked?=20

I'm trying to install ARSPerl-1.83 on HPUX 11.0 ARS 5.1 gcc 4.01 Perl 5.0.6.1. It compiles and installs with no errors but when I try to use the module I get :- Can't load '/opt/perl/lib/site_perl/5.6.1/PA-RISC1.1-thread-multi/auto/ARS/ARS.sl' for module ARS: Unresolved external at /opt/perl/lib/5.6.1/PA-RISC1.1-thread-multi/DynaLoader.pm line 206. Jerry,
Try using the function below. You'd call it as (e.g.):
my $external_label = get_field_label(
$ctrl,
$schema_name,
$fids{'Create Date'},
undef
);
If you want to pick the label from a certain VUI, then give the # of that
VUI in place of the "undef".
Any questions, please get back to me.
Cheers,
Richard.
-------------
sub get_field_label ($$$$) {
#
# Step 1) Grab the args
#
my ($ctrl, $schema, $fid, $vui) = @_;
#
# Step 2) Fetch the field structure
#
my $field_struct = ars_GetField(
$ctrl,
$schema,
$fid,
);
#
# Step 3) Now pick a VUI structure from the the list; If we were given
# the # of a VUI, look for that else just use the first in the
# list
#
my $vui_list =
$field_struct->{displayInstanceList}->{dInstanceList};
my $vui_index;
if (defined($vui)) {
for (my $i = 0; $i < @$vui_list; ++$i) {
if ($vui eq $vui_list->[$i]->{vui}) {
$vui_index = $i;
last;
}
}
} else {
$vui_index = 0;
}

Thilo, Thanks for the pointer, you were correct, 1.83 compiled. I had one issue with the install, it did not move libar.so, so I had to manually place it in /lib. Jerry, The labels for a field are buried deep in the structure, there is one label for each VUID to which the field belongs. The ARSdoc script (http://www.soton.ac.uk/~_remedy/ARSdoc.html) includes code which finds the labels, but it is not easy to follow. I enclose a small Perl module which includes a routine called 'layout' which will display any given Perl structure for you, I find it invaluable in writing ARSdoc. The labels are a display property and you will find them within the 'displayInstanceList' part of the field properties structure. Within the 'displayInstanceList' structure is 'dInstanceList', which is in turn an array of hashes. The label is the 'value' element of a hash where the 'prop' element equals 20. Use &DJA::layout to see the structure returned by ars_GetField. Hope that helps.
