Jerry,
thank you for your feedback. I'll try to investigate this. =
Unfortunately I
cannot test it under Solaris, but I suspect it's a problem with Perl =
5.6 (or
more generally pre 5.8), which I will test as soon as I find the time.
For now I'd recommend to test the real-world functionality you want to =
use
it for, and if it works, start using it.=20

Betreff: [Arsperl-users] Install Problem
Hi folks,
I suspect this problem has been addressed before, but I can't track it =
down
in the archives.
Solaris 8, Perl 5.6.1, ARS 6.3
Installing ARS Perl is going OK as far as the "perl Makefile.PL" and
"make", but at "make test" I get the following.
ASPerl worked fine with my previous version oif ARS, 5.0.1, on the same
machine. Since then I have had PERL upgraded, and reloaded all the
prerequisite perl modules.
Any suggestions?
Jerry

Hi folks,
I suspect this problem has been addressed before, but I can't track it
down in the archives.

Thanks for your assistance Misi! I was able to use your subroutine and
example to import records with a 'Status History' that I specify.

Alex,
It is not hard to create the data manually.
Each entry is separated by Ctrl-C, and the Timestamp/User is separated by
Ctrl-D. Skip the Ctrl-D if a position is empty.
# encodes status history from the same format
# as returned by ars_decodeStatusHistory()
sub encodeStatusHistory
{
my @sh = ();
while(my $hr = shift)
{
push @sh, $hr->{USER} ? "$hr->{TIME}\cD$hr->{USER}" : "";
}
join "\cC", @sh;
}
# example
my @d = ();
$d[0]->{TIME} = "1078759891";
$d[0]->{USER} = "miz";
$d[1]->{TIME} = "1078759899";
$d[1]->{USER} = "louise";
$d[2]->{TIME} = "";
$d[2]->{USER} = "";
$d[3]->{TIME} = "1078759993";
$d[3]->{USER} = "louise";
my $field_value = encodeStatusHistory(@d);

Hi everyone, I'm currently writing a script to take some data from a CSV file and import it into Remedy. I am using ars_MergeEntry to import the data, since I want control over the Submitter and Date Submitted. The problem I have is with the Status History. I want to be able to specify USER and TIME values during the merge. There is a ars_decodeStatusHistory helper function, but I don't see a ars_encodeStatusHistory function. Does anyone have any advice? Hi, We're on ARS 5.1.2, Oracle 9.2, Solaris 9 I have ARS Perl 1.81 installed on the ARS server and am happily using it. Hello, we are currently implementing a solution where we talk to our Remedy system (which is on a cluster in our backend) from a machine in our DMZ via ARSPerl. Our networking/security people need to know which ports to open on the internal firewall. For the traffic towards the Remedy system this is clear and we set it ourselves. But what is the client port that is being used for replies? Is it the same port, or can we configure a range of different ports? If so, how? Your answer is much appreciated, thanks, -Maik |

You might try replacing line 4158 in "ARS.xs" (in the function call to
ARDecodeAlertMessage) as follows: Replace
=20
&serverName,
by
=20
#if AR_EXPORT_VERSION >=3D 7
&serverName,
#endif
ARSperl-1.8.3 should compile with this change, at least it does on =
Windows.=20
=20

Surely it is. This problem isn't even Solaris-specific. Maybe 5.0 is =
not a
popular version anymore.
Anyway, there is ongoing work concerning this problem. Expect to see =
this
resolved soon.

The correspondence between AR_EXPORT_VERSION and $ARSVERSION (which =
should
match the version of your ARS Server) is as follows:
6L -> 5.0.*=20
7L -> 5.1.*=20
8L -> 6.*=20
So it looks like you have 5.0 libraries and should therefore set=20

ARSperl-1.84 will, however, not compile against the 5.* API. =
ARSperl-1.83

The correspondence between AR_EXPORT_VERSION and $ARSVERSION (which =
should
match the version of your ARS Server) is as follows:
6L -> 5.0.*
7L -> 5.1.*
8L -> 6.*
So it looks like you have 5.0 libraries and should therefore set=20
$ARSVERSION =3D 5.0;
ARSperl-1.84 will, however, not compile against the 5.* API. =
ARSperl-1.83
may or may not work, but should definitely give another error message =
if it
fails.

Try calling ars_GetServerInfo with specific server options, e.g. the
complete list from 1 to 184 (184 =3D AR_MAX_SERVER_INFO_USED for ARS =
5.1.2),
but with options 10 (AR_SERVER_INFO_DB_PASSWORD, which is write-only) =
and
171 explicitly excluded:=20
@info =3D grep {$_ !=3D 10 && $_ !=3D 171} (1..184);=20
(%h =3D ars_GetServerInfo($c,@info)) || die "ERR: $ars_errstr\n";
You might get other "Unrecognized ..." errors with other tag numbers =
than
171, in which case you need to modify the "grep" statement accordingly.
I don't really know why this error occurs; maybe only DSO-enabled =
servers
know about server option 171 (=3D =

Yes the file
"/opt/perl/lib/site_perl/5.6.1/PA-RISC1.1-thread-multi/auto/ARS/ARS.sl"
exists in the specified location and also in the blib tree and a file

I've also seen problems in cases where the perl interpreter itself was

Maybe ARSperl needs to find the original "libar.sl". Could you try =
putting
the location of "libar.sl" into SHLIB_PATH (and don't forget to export =
the
variable)?

Yes the file
"/opt/perl/lib/site_perl/5.6.1/PA-RISC1.1-thread-multi/auto/ARS/ARS.sl"
exists in the specified location and also in the blib tree and a file
command says it's a shared library. I've tried running scripts as root =
to
check it's not a permission problem as well as the Remedy user.

Does the file
"/opt/perl/lib/site_perl/5.6.1/PA-RISC1.1-thread-multi/auto/ARS/ARS.sl"
exist at the specified location?=20
Can it be found in the "blib/"-tree of your build directory?=20
I've also seen problems in cases where the perl interpreter itself was
compiled with a different version of gcc than ARSperl, though I think =
that
would yield a different error message.

Yes I have checked the FAQ. We do have the shared API libraries and the =
code
compiles and links successfully. I have seen in Google that people have =
successfully installed ARSPerl as dynamic on HPUX. I would compile it =
as=20
static but searching Google produces lots of problems with compiling=20
"standard" perl on HPUX 11.0. Does anyone have a successful recipe for=20
compiling Perl on HPUX 11.0 using gcc with ARSPerl statically linked?=20
