Hello all,=20
I've got questions concering the fields in a form versus how they are =
stored in the database. I've found some inconsistancies.
When using the ars_perl commands:=20
@fieldidlst =3D ars_GetListField($c,$schema,0,1);=20
and=20
%field_hash=3Dars_GetFieldTable($c,$schema);=20
I can get a good list of the fields in a form.=20
When comparing this list to the view and table in Oracle, I have =
different results.=20
Lets take the example that I'm working with: We are using the SAM =
(Software Asset Management) Remedy product. for it's AST:Asset form, I =
am trying to pull back the field:
'Application ID' which has a database name of 'Application GUID' or =
'Application_GUID' in SQL. It's database ID is '400081600'
This field is in the form, but it is not in the Oracle table "AST_ASSET" =
It also does not appear in the table designaetd in the arschema lookup =
table (T2022) which (I beleive) would be 'C400081600'.
When loking in the Remedy Admin tool, the field looks like any other =
field, but for some reason, it is not stored in the same place with the =
other fields.
Why is this different and where can I find this field to get it's data =
in Oracle?=20

the problem here seems to be the "|| die ..." operation. From the "perlop"-manpage: The "||" and "&&" operators return the last value evaluated Ah yes ... that has been a contributing factor. I have tried so many variations including removing the die altogether, I suppose I must have had several problems so solving one each time made little difference. But now it works! Peter,
the problem here seems to be the "|| die ..." operation. From the
"perlop"-manpage:
The "||" and "&&" operators return the last value evaluated
It should work as intended if you try it this way:
my @what = ars_GetListContainer($ctrl, 0,
&ARS::AR_HIDDEN_INCREMENT,
&ARS::ARCON_GUIDE,
&ARS::ARCON_APP,
);
die "ars_GetListContainer error: $ars_errstr\n" if ! @what;
print join(' | ',@what), "\n"; # _DEBUG_

Thanks Richard and Ian for your replies. I should have said in my original
email that my code started with the example that used @l. In this case I
appear to get a single element which is a reference to a hash. However hard
I look at it, my conclusion is always that I just get back a single hash
describing a single container.
Unfortunately I don't have the ability to recompile the module otherwise I
would have put debugging in the code to see what was actually being returned
by the underlying C call.

Petet

Peter,
If you have a look at the documentation it says:
*On success*
Returns an array of HASH references.
*On failure*
Returns undef.
Example:
(@a = ars_GetListContainer($ctrl, 0, &ARS::AR_HIDDEN_INCREMENT, ARCON_GUIDE)) ||
die "$ars_errstr";
Hope this helps...

Hi All, Is anybody else having problems with ars_GetListContainer? It only seems to return the hash for a single item instead of the array of hashes I am expecting. my $what = ars_GetListContainer($c->ctrl(), 0, &ARS::AR_HIDDEN_INCREMENT, &ARS::ARCON_GUIDE, &ARS::ARCON_APP) || die "ars_GetListContainer error: $ars_errstr\n"; print ref($what) . "\n"; The above call tells me it's a HASH, and decoding it's contents gives: (HASH) 0 containerName:EWebContS 0 containerType:app 0 ownerObjList: (ARRAY) I have a feeling that I am just getting back the last container instead of the list. I'm using the precompiled ARSperl1.84 (API 8) under Windows 2K with ActiveState Perl5.008007 Build 813 against a ARS 6.00.01. Any help would be appreciated. Hello all,
I've been trying to figure this out, but have had no luck.
I'm trying to access a Date field (Not Date/Time field) with any of the
field functions (ars_GetFieldByName, ars_GetField, ars_GetFieldTable,
ars_GetListField) and it acts like it doesn't exist.
When I create an arbitrary field of type Date, the field appears to be
ignored by arsperl altogether. Adding fields of other types
(char,enum,time) all seem to work.
In the following snippet:
$id = ars_GetFieldByName($c, "brent_test", "Date Field2"); print
"ID=$id\n\n"; $field = ars_GetField($c, "brent_test", 536871071); print
$field->{dataType}; print "\n\n";
$id is null and so it $field.
Any ideas why this would be?
Thanks,

The cause for your problem is probable that perl can't find the Remedy client DLLs arapi63.dll, arrpc63.dll, arutl63.dll (or ar***60.dll, depending on your Remedy version). These need to be placed in a directory that is included in the PATH system variable. Regards, Thilo -----Original Message----- From: ars...@ar... The ARS perl modules is one of those modules requiring compilation, and you need the ARS API libraries available in a format useable on the platform you intend to build ARSPerl on. I suggest the person looking for the Linux versions of the API contact remedy support. --Quanah -- Quanah Gibson-Mount Principal Software Developer ITSS/Shared Services Stanford University GnuPG Public Key: http://www.stanford.edu/~quanah/pgp.html |

Hi, maybe I am wrong, but Perl is a Script-language, you don't need to compile it. But, there is the possibility, to compile a Perl-Script, but it is a part of the Perl-Application and not a part of the Remedy API. For more: _http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/docs/ActivePerl/5.8/lib/Pod/perlcompile.html _ (http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/docs/ActivePerl/5.8/lib/Pod/perlcompile.html) Greetings Rainer |

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head. This is an old script that I wrote a
long time ago. I am using <pre></pre>. It appears to be the only way I
can keep the formatting that is in the Character field but when someone
types a long line it goes off the screen or get cut off when sent to the
printer.

Mitch,
It sounds like the browser doesn't want to auto word wrap. Does it data
look okay on the screen? If not, check for <pre> and </pre> around the
text. These tags tell the browser the text is already formatted so
don't do anything with it. There may be other tags which would create
the same problem. You could try forcing the width of the screen using a
table with a specified width.

Subject: [Arsperl-users] Long Line of Data

I have an ARSPerl script that pulls data from a form and displays it in
an HTML window where it can then be sent to a printer using the Browser
print capability. I have one problem. When the script pulls the
Description field from the record and displays it, it gets displayed as
a very long line. Is there a way to take this value and display it in a
reasonable line length?
Thanks,=20

Mitch,
Try passing the string to this routine:
sub convertToHTML {
=20
my( @string ) =3D @_;
=20
foreach( @string ) {
if( defined( $_ )) {
s/&/&/g;
s/</</g;
s/>/>/g;
s/"/"/g;
s/ / /g;
s/ / /g;
s/ / /g;
s/(?:\x0d\x0a|\n)/<br>/g;
}
else {
$_ =3D '<font color=3Dred><none></font>';
}
}
=20
if( wantarray() ) {
return( @string );
}
return( $string[0] );
}
