I've done everything but my graphics still don't paint anything.
The only thing that seems to be wrong is the fact that when I add a new
service, using apanconf-sql, the file etc/servicextinfo-apan presents this
output:
define serviceextinfo {
host_name windows2000
service_description Network
notes_url
/nagios/sbin/apan-sql.cgi?host=windows2000&service=Network
icon_image graph.png
icon_image_alt View Apan-graphs
}
but I have to modify the url like this to have the link available in the
browser:
notes_url
/nagios/cgi-bin/apan-sql.cgi?host=windows2000&service=Network-usage
I don't know why this happen because I don't even have any cgi-bin directory.
I write here the last lines of my /tmp/apancgi.debug file:

Hi all , Regarding the bandwidth utilization plugin in the howto page , from what I understand it's supposed to show the number of bytes per-sec , but what it seems to be doing is building a set of the last values of received/sent packets on a specified interface and then averging the numbers in that set instead of calculating the difference between the current and last received/sent packets value on the given interface and then averaging the set of the differences , which is what it supposed to do to give an accurate bandwidth utilization . for instance if the last 5 values of received packets were 100,200,300,400,500 in that order ( which is normal because the value will never decrease unless it wraps around) , the average of those would be ((100+200+300+400+500)/5) when it's supposed to be (((200-100)+(300-200)-(400-300)+(500-400))/4) , this later caculation is necessary because these OIDs do not return the "Bandwidth utilization" but the number of packets received/sent on a given interface until the current point in time . Please correct me if I'm wrong . Thank you |

Hi! I'm creating a plugin for apan and i would like to pass an argument t=
o=20
the plugin, something like that
define service{
use generic-service
host_name kombu
service_description memory-usage-2
is_volatile 0
contact_groups tests
check_command apan!control_snmp!30
}
define serviceextinfo{
host_name kombu
service_description memory-usage-2
notes_url =20
/cgi-bin/apan.cgi?host=3Dkombu&service=3Dmemory-usage-2
icon_image graph.png
icon_image_alt Stats
}
*I don't know which is the global variable that have the value 30. How=20
can I access to this value????
*Additional info:
I have defined apan in checkcommands.cfg as
define command {
command_name apan
command_line /usr/local/nagios/apan/apan.sh $ARG1$ $HOSTNAME$=20
$SERVICEDESC$ $TIMET$ $ARG2$ $ARG3$
}
I've intented to see the values of $ARG1,$ARG2,$ARG3 but are empty.
A lot of thanks

Hello, Anyone get the following error in Nagios from a apan service... "Cannot find module (none): At line 0 in (none)" I have went through the entire install 3 times (even deleted the database) and just cant seem to locate my mistake. The graphs are not being generated at all and even though I set up the "xedtemplate_config_file=" definition in the cgi.cfg there are no links. Configuration Details (will be happy to provide more if needed): CentOS 4.3 nagios 2.4-1 and nagios-plugins 1.4.2-1.2 via Dag RPM mysql-server 4.1.20-1 via Dag RPM One other question... in the apanconf.def what is the NAGIOSDIR really looking for? The directory where the nagios executable is? Thanks all! Jeff |

Hello all, I'm using Nagios 2.06b and Apan 0.3.0-sql, and the graphics in the apan.cgi page appear without data. Everything seems to function correctly. I'm seing in the /tmp/apan.debug this message: vie ene 20 12:02:50 CET 2006 Ping: localhost 15 I'll try to see the RRD archive, which name is: localhost-Pg.rdd where the nagios user and group have r/w access the data with this command: rrdtool fetch /usr/local/nagios/rrd/localhost-Pg.rrd AVERAGE Immediatly I see the results, and appear a list like that: 1137758700: nan 1137758760: nan 1137758820: nan and a lot of more "nan" I think that "nan" is my problem but everything it seems to be correct, should someone help me? Any idea? The first thing that jumps out at me is that that's not a URL. Example of a URL: http://1.2.3.4/nagiosv2/cgi-bin/apan-sql.cgi?host=3DGESTION_PORTAL&service= =3DPING What error are you getting when you click your link? You can turn up debugging in apan and get plenty of helpful info, as well. |

The "Apan could not find service" message means the service is not defined in the myaql database. For each service using APAN you define in Nagios, you must define an associated defination in mysql. APAN provides a tool to do so. Here is a sample of a Nagios/APAN ping service from my system:
define service{
use generic-service
host_name z3
service_description Apan ping
is_volatile 0
check_command apan-sql!ping!100.0,20%!500.0,60%
}
#
# command for APAN add on
#
define command {
command_name apan-sql
command_line /usr/local/nagios/apan-sql/apan-sql.sh $ARG1$ $HOSTNAME$ "$SERVICEDESC$" $TIMET$ $ARG2$ $ARG3$
}
[root@colossus apan-sql]# ./apanconf-sql
-------------- ApanConfig Main menu ---------------
1) Add a service
2) edit a service
3) delete a service
4) Rebuild serviceextinfo
q) quit
What do you want to do? 2
----------------- Edit a service -------------------
Hostname : z3
Services on host z3:
1) Apan ping (Track ping response)
Enter the number for the service you want to edit or 'q' to abort: 1
Configuration for service 'Apan ping' on host 'z3':
1) Hostname: z3
2) Service: Apan ping
3) Comment: Track ping response
4) Graph-Label: Time
5) Graph-Unit: Time
6) Extra args:
7) RRD-file: /usr/local/nagios/rrd/z3-Apan_ping.rrd
Wich parameter do you want to change (q to quit)?
The service in APAN must agree with the "service description" in Nagios - in this case both are "Apan ping".
I haven't used Nagios 2.x yet, but on 1.2 it was not necessary to recompile anything to get the graph icon to appear in the service detail view of Nagios. Just make sure that the extended host file created by apanconf-sql is in the right place, with the correct name and permissions.
Good luck!
Regards,
Greg King

Nick, =20 It's nagios that is giving you errors. Your services.cfg for the ping service does not specify max_attempts, normal_check_interval, retry_check_interval, or notification_interval. Try adding in values for those properties and see if that helps. =20 - SL |

Hi Mike:
I'd recommend the following:
1. verify servicextinfo-apan file is in correct/consistent location. =
Both
apan config directives and cgi.cfg directives should point to the same =
file.
i.e.
apanconf.defs:=20
# File with Apan's serviceextinfo-definitions
EXTINFOFILE=3D<whatever>/servicextinfo-apan.cfg
And cgi.cfg:=20
xedtemplate_config_file=3D<whatever>/servicextinfo-apan.cfg
2. Make sure user nagios can read said file
chown -R :nagios <whatever>
chmod -R g=3Drwx <whatever>
3. If the apanconf.def location was different than the cgi.cfg location,
make sure the file generated by apan is in the true location. Restart =
Nagios
if you had to change any of these settings.
Good luck!

Greg King

Check your configuration file(s) to ensure that they contain valid
directives and data defintions. If you are upgrading from a previous
version of Nagios, you should be aware that some variables/definitions
may have been removed or modified in this version. Make sure to read
the HTML documentation on the main and host config files, as well as
the
'Whats New' section to find out what has changed.
------------ snip ----------------------
The entry in services that it is referring to is:
------------ snip ----------------------
define service {
host_name 10.1.12.240
service_description Ping
check_command
apan-sql!ping!100.0,20%!500.0,60%
name Ping
use generic-service
normal_check_interval 1
}
------------ snip ----------------------
And my check command is:
------------ snip ----------------------
# APAN command
define command {
command_name apan-sql
command_line
/usr/share/nagios/apan-sql/apan-sql.sh $ARG1$ $HOSTNAME$ "$SERVICEDESC$"
$TIMET$ $ARG2$ $ARG3$
}

Hi to all;
Im just new here in APAN, im using nagios-2.0b3, i've
installed APAN as documented but unable to performed
the "small hacks" part of nagios to status.c, it seems
the new nagios version has a different code than what
is documented in APAN, but still tries to continued
installing APAN. I have a missing rrs graph link to
"Services Detail" where i used to add APAN service to
a certain host. Below is my sample config using
"locahost" and "PING" as a service:
cgi.cfg:
#APAN EXTINFOFILE
xedtemplate_config_file=/usr/local/nagios/etc/servicextinfo-apan
servicextinfo-apan:
# Localhost PING Service
define serviceextinfo {
host_name localhost
service_description PING
notes_url
/nagios/cgi-bin/apan-sql.cgi?host=localhost&service=PING
icon_image graph.png
icon_image_alt View Apan-graphs
}
commandcheck.cfg:
define command{
command_name check_ping
command_line $USER1$/check_ping -H
$HOSTADDRESS$ -w $ARG1$ -c $ARG2$ -p
5
}
define command {
command_name apan-sql
command_line
/usr/local/nagios/apan-sql/apan-sql.sh $ARG1$
$HOSTNAME$ "
$SERVICEDESC$" $TIMET$ $ARG2$ $ARG3$
}
define service{
use
generic-service ; Name of service
template to use
host_name localhost
service_description PING
is_volatile 0
check_period 24x7
max_check_attempts 4
normal_check_interval 5
retry_check_interval 1
contact_groups admins
notification_interval 960
notification_period 24x7
check_command
apan-sql!ping!100.0,20%!500.0,60%
}
RRDs was successfully created under $NagiosDir/rrd..
Services was also created in mysql DB via apancfg.
Is there something i missed? logs and nagios show
successfull ping checks via apan, but i dont see the
rrd graph links to see the rrd graphs.
Any idea why?
Thanks in advance for the help..
Mike
