I am about to start the work to port an existing 32-bit Linux application to AIX. I have had the AIX Toobox for Linux Applications installed, and I was wondering whether there are any special compiler settings that I need to set in order to compile the application as a 32-bit application? My understanding is that the default is 32-bit, and that there are no other options that I have to set, I just want to confirm this. Also, are there any issues with getting access to the related 32-bit libraries, or are the libraries installed a part of the Toolbox all 32-bit compatible libraries? Any other gotchas that I should be aware of? Thanks in advance for any responses. |

As far as I can tell, glibc is only supported on Linux platforms. There is no AIX version that I am aware of. Dear all, I want to install the openssh version 4.5 on AIX 5.3. This new version requires package openssl-0.9.8. Openssl-0.9.8 is no longer shipped as an rpm package in the AIX Toolbox for Linux applications but an installp fileset located on the AIX 6.1 or AIX 5.3 expansion pack (11/2007). The problem I have is that I'm not able to download any of these from the IBM websites. Is it possible to add the openssl-0.9.8 installp fileset (or new build rpm) to the AIX toolbox for Linux Applications until the new version of openssl is available from the IBM website. In this case everybody can install the latest version of openssl on a previous version of AIX 5L Thanks in advance, J. Smits |

Hi Edward, OpenSSL is no longer part of the Toolbox. Starting in AIX 6.1, it has moved to the Expansion Pack media that comes with the base AIX distribution. This is good news for several reasons. 1. It has been updated to 0.9.8d. 2. It is packaged in the native AIX installp format, which in turn makes it easier for people to install OpenSSH. Previously we had an awkward situation where OpenSSH (an installp package) depended on OpenSSL (an RPM). Now you can do everything in one shot, and from the same CD. 3. It is supported! You can open PMRs, get APARs, etc. No more apologetic "lawyers have my hands tied" emails from me on this mailing list any more! Well, not for OpenSSL at least. I suspect it will be made available here soon: <https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/reg/pick.do?source=aixbp>, but again, for more information about that or the timetable for OpenSSH 4.7, you can now contact official IBM AIX support. Those questions can't be answered here because I don't build them any more. -- Reza Arbab ar...@au... |

You can find instructions on this in the README file: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/README.txt For GNOME you want the "base" group of rpms (containing widely needed libraries and commands), then the "desktop.base" group (prerequisites common to both Gnome and KDE desktops), then the "gnome.base" group. Optionally you may want "gnome.apps" too. Use wget to download these scripts, then run them: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/ezinstall/ppc/getbase.sh ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/ezinstall/ppc/getdesktop.base.sh ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/ezinstall/ppc/getgnome.base.sh ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/ezinstall/ppc/getgnome.apps.sh Then install all packages from each group (that you haven't already installed). -- David Clissold cl...@au... Tanuj, I see zcat in /usr/bin on my system. When I run "lslpp -w /usr/bin/zcat", it reports that it is a part of box.rte.archive. Run "which zcat" to see if it is already installed, and if not, then install the bos.rte.archive package from your installation media. regards, Vance Bass IBM Advanced Technical Support Albuquerque NM tel: 505-888-2701 cell: 505-270-3700 "Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal." -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. |

The RPM that contains zcat is: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/RPMS/ppc/gzip/gzip-1.2.4a-9.aix5.1.ppc.rpm Also, note that zcat comes in two AIX BFF packages: bos.rte.archive (/usr/bin/zcat) rpm.rte (/usr/opt/freeware/bin/zcat) ==Pythagoras Watson, LLNL ASC Systems Administrator On Tue, Oct 30, 2007 at 11:27:25PM -0700, Tanuja mv wrote: :Pls provide me the RPM for installing zcat utility. |

Hi Michael, On 26 Oct 2007, 06:02AM CDT, Michael Marti <mic...@is...> wrote: > gcc-c++-4.0.0-1 > > > The problem is that I am not able to compile a simple hello world > program using the gnu g++ compiler: It bothers me to say it, but this has been a known problem with the GCC 4.0.0 packages in the Toolbox for a long time. The preferred solution for us is to update to the latest compiler. I've been pushing that boulder (uphill) for a long time now, but you wouldn't believe the scrutiny any package undergoes before we have permission to distribute it. This is the reason nearly everything in the Toolbox is at least 2 years old. In the short term, I would recommend installing the older g++ 3.3.2 which worked better. Look here: <ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/RPMS/ppc/gcc> Of course, as a last resort, if you really require the latest GCC you could build it yourself. -- Reza Arbab ar...@au... |

Dear all I am experiencing problems with the gnu c++ compiler under aix using the following versions: # uname -a AIX istcluster1 3 5 0001D92AD300 # rpm -qf /usr/bin/g++ gcc-c++-4.0.0-1 The problem is that I am not able to compile a simple hello world program using the gnu g++ compiler: # cat conf.C #ifdef __cplusplus extern "C" void std::exit (int); using std::exit; #endif #define OMPI_CXX "g++" /* end confdefs.h. */ #include <string> int main () { std::string foo = "Hello, world" ; return 0; } # g++ conf.C ld: 0711-317 ERROR: Undefined symbol: .std::allocator<char>::allocator() ld: 0711-317 ERROR: Undefined symbol: .std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> >::basic_string(char const*, std::allocator<char> const&) ld: 0711-317 ERROR: Undefined symbol: .std::allocator<char>::~allocator() ld: 0711-317 ERROR: Undefined symbol: .std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> >::~basic_string() ld: 0711-345 Use the -bloadmap or -bnoquiet option to obtain more information. collect2: ld returned 8 exit status tried to fix this but run out of ideas.
