With AIX version 5.x, you can get perl install right from the AIX 5.x CDs via the "smit install_latest" command. Well, that would depend on the Perl's minimum required version you need. =20 =20 ________________________________ From: aix...@li... I am running AIX 5.3 maintenance level 2 on a p5 695 LPAR. I downloaded and installed the AIX 5.3 gcc rpm. Hi all, here's a problem that an user has reported lately when he was working on a program using xslt. It seems to the a bug in the libxslt RPM of the AIX Toolbox for Linux, as it works with the libxslt installations on various Linux systems where I've tested this (different distributions and different levels). To demonstrate the wrong behavior, the user has provided me with two small files (attached below), which when invoked as "xsltproc sample.xsl input.xml" should return the current date and time like this: altmark@pdw7: xslt (10) $ xsltproc sample.xsl input.xml DateTime: 2006-07-07T18:10:46+02:00, Date: 07/07/06, Time: 06:10:46 This works fine as long as the timezone (TZ) variable has a negative offset to UTC, like here in Germany where we have TZ=CET-1CEST, thus explicitly running altmark@pdw7: xslt (11) $ env TZ="CET-1CEST" xsltproc sample.xsl input.xml DateTime: 2006-07-07T18:11:00+02:00, Date: 07/07/06, Time: 06:11:00 is ok, too. But for e.g. Eastern Time in the US one gets: altmark@pdw7: xslt (12) $ env TZ="EST5EDT" xsltproc sample.xsl input.xml DateTime: , Date: , Time: As said, the latter works on a Linux machine (RHEL4 in the following case): altmark@hdcl028: xslt (9) $ env TZ="EST5EDT" xsltproc sample.xsl input.xml DateTime: 2006-07-07T11:51:53-04:00, Date: 07/07/06, Time: 11:51:53 To reproduce the problem: 1. Create a directory "xslt" and save the two attached files in that directory. 2. Create a subdirectory "exslt" and another two subdiretories "date" and "str" underneath it. 3. From www.exslt.org, download date.zip [1] and str.zip [2] and extract them to the "date" and "str" directories respectively. 4. Go to the top level "xslt" directory and run the command listed above: "xsltproc sample.xsl input.xml" with different settings for the TZ environment variable. The strange thing is that it even works on a Linux machine with an older version of libxslt (1.0.33-5) installed than on AIX. Can anybody more familiar with xslt than me please shed some light on this? Thanks! Regards, Markus [1] http://www.exslt.org/date/date.zip [2] http://www.exslt.org/str/str.zip -- Markus Alt IBM Lab Boeblingen, Germany al...@de... |

Folks, there's been some discussion about changes to the /opt/freeware/bin/vncserver shell script and as we're on the topic, here's another thing that I'd like to bring forward. This appears to be a fairly old problem (at least searching the web gives some hits pointing into the same direction). Here goes: When starting vncserver without the "-nolisten local" option, it fails to execute the commands that I specify in ~/.vnc/xstartup and I get errors like these in ~/.vnc/<host>:<displaynum>.log: AUDIT: Fri Jul 7 15:14:17 2006: 585912 Xvnc: client 1 rejected from local host Xlib: connection to ":1.0" refused by server Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server mwm: 2053-015 Could not open display. Some hints I've found on various websites (e.g. [1]) indicate that this could be caused by either 1) /tmp/.X11-unix already existing (what it usually does) 2) /tmp/.X11-unix being owned by another ID (yes, usually root:system) 3) /tmp/.X11-unix not being writable (not the case, as its permissions are 777 or 1777) Thus vncserver is unable to create its Unix domain socket within that directory, they say. However I've found that this is not true. /tmp/.X11-unix/X<displaynum> gets created and so does the directory itself if it's not there yet. But this does not make a difference with regard to the aforementioned problem. Starting vncserver with the "-nolisten local" option (i.e. without using the Unix domain socket) makes things work ok. So I propose to add this option as the default to the command string for Xvnc within the /opt/freeware/bin/vncserver script. Any thoughts on this? Please modify the vncserver code (/usr/bin/X11/vncserver) to set the fontpath according what's specified below. Note that those are commas (,) separating the directories in the fontpath. That is the correct delimiter. vncserver -nolisten local -fp /usr/lib/X11/fonts/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/ibm850/ And here's the actual fix: For future reference, I added the following line to the script /usr/bin/X11/vncserver: Under section: # Add font path and color database stuff here $cmd .= " -fp /usr/lib/X11/fonts/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/ibm850/"; Thanks. Greetings: One of our engineers recently discovered a problem with a path for the vncClasses variable in the vncserver script. The /opt/freeware/bin/vncserver shell script sets $vncClasses = "/usr/local/vnc/classes"; But there is no /usr/local/vnc so either an additional link needs to be created or this value should be changed to $vncClasses = "/opt/freeware/vnc/classes"; Failure to set this variable correctly will keep vnc from find the classes that it needs. That will make it impossible to connect to the vncserver through a web client. Would this be addressed in a future release of vnc from the Toolbox? Thanks. Andrew, It appears as if the AIX Toolbox project is dead in the water. I haven't seen anything new come out in quite a while and every time someone asks for an updated package "they" respond by saying that it's too much trouble to go through the license or something. Very disappointing. Just my $.02 worth. :( Later... Richard -----Original Message----- From: aix...@li... I was also getting undefined symbol errors when using g++ 4.0.0 and AIX = 5.2's native linker to build an exe. $LD_FLAGS was set to "-Wl,-brtl = -Wl,-berok". The reported undefined symbols should've been found in = libstdc++.a (libstdc++.so.6).=20 I solved this problem by removing the -Wl,-brtl flag, that is, setting = $LD_FLAGS to "-Wl,-berok" only. I also solved this problem by retaining the "-Wl,-brtl" flag and using = the version of libstdc++.a that contains libstdc++.so.5 (instead of = libstdc++.so .6).=20 Quite frankly I'm not sure if either of these solutions are correct, but = since the first solution allows the app to built with the latest version = of libstdc++.a, I'm going with that. Does anyone know why the -brtl flag causes this problem? |
