I'm doing the infoset command on a tag match csec and getting no matches, where a tag search returns the correct result. :-( Bill --------------------------------- Find out what India is talking about on - Yahoo! HPathname is back to being just Pathname. This fix is a result of finding a bug in AW. On the server side, there is just one piece of code to generate pathname events. On 3.4.1, I've now got to update the docs. And now I can use the infobase command in the documentation of the view command, perhaps, to list the effected commands. https://agilewiki.dev.java.net/ Hanif suggested redoing the project page to make it more attractive to senior developers. I reviewed it and found it quite dated. Now it has been redone, though I suspect not for the last time. :-) Bill --------------------------------- Find out what India is talking about on - Yahoo! I've reworked the PortalWrapper API so that it is clearer that it conforms to the requirements spelled out in the request DTD. I don't think that I actually accomplished much. Perhaps a small bit more clarity, but if so it is very small. Bill --------------------------------- Find out what India is talking about on - Yahoo! Trupti, one final thought. I've been uploading the aw3.war file as a separate file now, because of its size and because not everyone woule need it. And I don't include it in minor releases when it has not changed. So if you did not download the war file, you will need to download the file named AwServletWar.zip. Bill TNB <tn...@st...> wrote: Hi, I am resending this message, it didn't get delivered, since I was sending to a wrong email address. I got rid of all the errors in other projects. I do have aw3 war file, but it doesn't have aw3_29.pdf file When I run AwServlet, in "Bundled Tomcat" tab, I get following error ... I am not sure if "AwServlet\web" should be part of the zip file or when I build the project the "web" folder should be created during the build process. Also, I decided to checkout the code using TortoiseSVN, but that didn't allow me to checkout the code, I was not able to see the source code in the repository of TortoiseSVN. I did mention the correct path of the repository, but was not able to drill down in TortioseSVN to checkout AwServlet\web folder. Trupti, I'll confirm. I used WinZip to open that latest release of the .war file and was able to open usingnetbeans/aw3_29.pdf directly from there. Sorry about the missing web directory in the download, but it just duplicates the contents of the war file, yes? I've been dropping it for some time now in the releases to try to help with the file size. Unfortunately the documentation from Gordan predates this. To confirm what Gordan said, I just replaced my AwServlet/web directory with the extract from the aw3.war file and it came up great. I've made some corrections to the elements and added the attributes now for the response DTD. I don't think the request DTD will be quite such a mess, but it should still be informative. But not today. And perhaps not tomorrow. Bill I've created a drawer, /DeveloperGuide/Interface DTDs, and listed it on the /AwDocs page. --------------------------------- Here's a new way to find what you're looking for - Yahoo! Some good progress. I've now defined all the elements (but not yet the attributes) in the response. I found two duplicate element names, Time and Pathname, and changed the code so that we now have Time, HTime, Pathname and HPathname. Having a real DTD is a valuable thing, so it is worth changing the code so that we can have one. I also found 3 unused elements in the client code: Table, List and KeyedList. In this case, I have not changed the code. Bill --------------------------------- Here's a new way to find what you're looking for - Yahoo! Answers Send FREE SMS to your friend's mobile from Yahoo! I remember the grand days of AI when things were so very hopeful. We had great problem solving systems. We only needed to get them scale a bit better. Inference engines are very sensitive to the size of the working set. And we never did solve that problem. Of course, that's one of the things Rolonics is all about--having a well defined context, a well controlled namespace, and consequently an environment where not every inference is applied to every rolon in the infobase. The first step in building such a system is to focus on ontology. We've got that. Next we add semantic relations, and a few simple rules about communitive/symetric and transitive relations. That shouldn't be too hard. After that, we'll see. If nothing else, it should be a great platform for applications. http://laforge49.blogspot.com/2006/09/semantic-relationships-and-time.html Norm, we've never talked much about semantic relationships, but I think they have a lot to do with 2-time. See the above blog. Could you give me a sanity check on this? I'm thinking that semantic relationships, even simple ones, could be helpful when working on applications. Eariler I was thinking that you just have a LEnt which names another topic. Then the name of the LEnt becomes the type of relationship. But that seems rather lame. Thanks! Norm and I have a common problem. We understand rolonics, but when we describe what you can do with it, it sounds like magic. And when we describe how it works, it sounds too simple. And when we explain why it works, people simply can't follow no matter how easy and logical it sounds. AW is an implementation which supports rolonic activities. It is not necessary if you understand rolonics, but handy. It lets you do things which historicly folk have found to be very hard to achieve. I think of it as a learning tool. In the 80's, oo was all the range. The whole point was to be able to write reusable code. But that proved almost impossible. The methodologies were developed further and, if you followed them faithfully, then occasionally you would get reusable code. Then came Ms's COM and Sun's JavaBeans. Use interfaces and a factory. Decouple implementations. And most code ends up being reusable to a suprising degree. Simple. And Rolonics is like that, but much more so. When I think of our cat, I can describe what I know in terms of her relationships, her history, her behavior and her current state. Turns out, that is a really really good way to represent information, about my cat or any system. And a knowledge system, a real, funtional, and practical generic knowledge system can be built just that way. Every system of merit is a system of systems. And the atom of knowledge is the Rolon. Informatin about every rolon can, in a very useful way, be represented as behavior, history, relationships and state. Doesn't do anything for you, does it! So learn the tool. Use it to describe complex systems, indeed, entire realms of highly inter-related information. Use it to take your class notes. Use it to organize the material for a book. Build a community knowledge base. It is agile, helpful, and practical for such activities. The code is a distraction. Code makes no sense unless you understand what the code is doing for you. Until you know rolonics, it will make no sense because you do not know what is being achieved. OK, so we've got some projects. The GUI needs work (and likely always will until someone who is good at GUI takes the lead). And there are bugs. But right now, dialog is the important thing. Do you understand how to use the commands? More, do you understand what to do with the commands? Work your way through the feature sets. If you find a command that seems strange, ask about it. And try to do something with it. Enter all your friends and their inter-relationships, activities, contact information, etc. Define complex systems of systems. Describe UNIX and its command set! Describe the history of your country, the people who have helped shape that history and various cultural influences. Then you will learn rolonics. My next documentation project will be to work on the DTDs for the clients. This should make it easy to write a (RMI) client from scratch, especially as we already have two working clients. The existing AwServlet client works, but it is not a winner. If anyone is interested in reworking the code, or even scrapping the code and "doing it right", I would be most delighted to support this activity. Oh, and use the IDE of your choice, of course! The back and forward commands are now working very nicely. Even smartly--up is often treated the same as back. Now with the swing client duplicating this functionality with back and forward buttons, which work somewhat differently and which also have pecular failure modes, I've now dropped the buttons from the swing client. Lets see how it goes. I've already created the new svn tag for 3.4, and tonight I'll complete the release. So I'm done with the GUI, having just bashed it a bit. Still need to write the DTDs for the interface. And then... Well, I'm thinking about two more commands for navigating time, eariler and later. That should add a bit of fun to using AW. And pretty powerful when combined with the copy command, mm? Bill --------------------------------- Here's a new way to find what you're looking for - Yahoo! I want to implement two commands, back and forward, which will be similar to the back and forward buttons on the swing client, except implemented in AwServer. The reason for this is that the client is unaware when something has been deleted and when attempting to go back to a deleted rolon, it gets into a strange state. Also, there is currently no equivalent in AwServlet and it is needed, as the back button on the browser does not work well with IFRAMEs, as well as there being a problem with using a form after the browser back button has been used. This last change then will be release 3.4.0.0. :-) Bill --------------------------------- Here's a new way to find what you're looking for - Yahoo! The rolonic view or uim is gone. The RolonicUIM class in AwServer is now abstract. The uimModel attribute has been stripped out. There may be a bit of dead code now in AwServlet and AwSwingClient, I can't say that I've caught it all. But hopefully this will help folk working on the GUI side, and perhaps users as well. :-) Bill --------------------------------- Here's a new way to find what you're looking for - Yahoo! I had been thinking for some time now that there was something wrong with time. Now I realize that it simply was not part of the wiki display. Oh... Duh! Anyway, it is fixed. Now you can use the jnl command to select a journl, then use the ctj command to navigate back in time, and the time will be displayed. Now it is time to chop out the rolonic interface... I love tossing code! That much less to maintain. That much less to explain. But I've never had coworkers who felt the same.
