Hi Charlie, What version of ActiveLock are you using? Have you read the tutorial on our web site <http://activelock.sourceforge.net>? --Thanh C.Leak wrote on 19/05/2004 9:49 PM: > Hi, > > Im a new user to the ActiveLock system. Hi, Im a new user to the ActiveLock system. While trying to implement it. I notice that i can manage a "successful registration", but whenever I restart the application, the registration is no longer valid. What may I be overlooking? Also, are there any tips on how to determine which kind of registration the current user has (i.e. temporary or demo)? Thanks in advance. Charlie charlieleak3.@yahoo.com |

Stan, > I tried to leave a message on the forum, but although I registered, I could not login. Did you get an email saying you've registered? I haven't looked at the forum for a long while. I'll check to see what state it is in. You made it to this list, so let's go with that for now. > "ActiveLock Error. ActiveLock has not been initialized." I'm sorry you had to find out this way....the tutorial is out-of-date. In 2.0.5, you *need* to call IActiveLock_Init() prior to calling Acquire(). Have a look at ALTestApp in 2.0.5. > When I push [Register] the message is "subscript out of range" Ooh...nasty error! This is probably related to you not having called Init() prior, but nevertheless, it's a bug. I'll look into it. --Thanh Stan Hilliard wrote on 14/05/2004 10:05 PM: >I downloaded ActiveLock 2.0.5 today and I have a few questions >about getting started. > >I tried to leave a message on the forum, but although I registered, I >could not login. > >What are the steps to get TutorialApp going. > >When I try to start it I get the message "ActiveLock Error. I downloaded ActiveLock 2.0.5 today and I have a few questions about getting started. I tried to leave a message on the forum, but although I registered, I could not login. What are the steps to get TutorialApp going. When I try to start it I get the message "ActiveLock Error. ActiveLock has not been initialized." Then I get the myApp Form to register. I entered: Registered user: John Q Public Installation Code: (already there) M0E1Ny01QkExCkpvaG4gUSBQdWJsaWM Liberation Key: (from VCode of MyApp in Activelock Universal Generator, already there) AAAAB3NzaC1yc2EAAAABJQAAAIB0tqI2zjwwqtIX37CxqVSyqtm3X MBxrjrqRfLC0OKCvWcSBbq/MOfdhl93eeHRk/gCJqoU84TkpxoqW4 2Wk7Zsi1J6IH1vk1F7cICGOkZwbnYJR3FZjVFmA1jgl/3JQgf8nV4O +RCxodoFUQ3erAkrvFnIkuD7cK6Arujx9H+oDQ== When I push [Register] the message is "subscript out of range" What am I doing wrong? > how to generate a liberation key without having an installation code? This is not possible within the new architecture. You must have an installation code to create the liberation key. > for anyone to start usiong for a trial period qithout having to register. In the current version (2.0), a license (even an eval license) is dependent on the user's hardware, so your user MUST register. Perhaps in the next version, we'll think about how to provide trial periods without a license. For now, you can try one of the following options: 1) create a separate demo version of your app that uses lockToNone in your application settings, and ship, within your setup, a license that expires on a specific date 2) just display a NAG screen when Acquire() fails, but still allow them to use your product --Thanh Ed Vergara wrote: >How would I go about generating a license file (or alb?) for anyone to start >usiong for a trial period qithout having to register. >My question is how to generate a liberation key without having an >installation code? > >Thanks, > >Ed Vergara >Ancilla Software, Inc. >Rutgers Camden Small Business Incubator >1000 Atlantic Avenue; Suite 512 >Camden, NJ 08104 >(856) 966-9200 >(856) 225-6399 (fax) > >eve...@an... >www.ancillasoftware.com > > |

How would I go about generating a license file (or alb?) for anyone to start usiong for a trial period qithout having to register. Hi, > How do I provide the user a way of getting the installation code since it will be generated by the Activelock? This is mentioned in Step 5 of the tutorial. > How is the user going to use this liberation key?, after it is obtained from me (thru email or by other means) Yes, your user can email you their installation code, and you can email back to them the liberation key. > Do I provide a DialogBox and software for this task? If so, where can I obtain a sample from the Internet? Yes, you can do it similar to the tutorial app. > Is the liberation key for the end user? How about the installation key? What do I have to provide to my end users, and how are they goint to use these keys? OK. So you're confused. I suggest you read/skim through the complete tutorial once to get a general overview. Then go over it again hands-on...meaning you try a code exercise, doing that the tutorial tells you to do. A typical flow of license registration may look something like this: 1. Your application provides a registration UI for the user to register their appication . For example, Tools|Licensing menu on your main application window that pops up a registration dialog 2. That dialog should display the Installation Code, and allows the user to enter a Liberation Key. 3. User copy that Installation Code out of that dialog and paste it into an email and send it to you. 4. You use the Installation Code that the user sent, and generate the liberation key for it using ALUGEN. E-mail the liberation key back to your user 5. Your user copy the liberation key out of the email and paste it back into the registration dialog in step 1. Hope that clarifies it a bit for you. Also, 2.0.5 has been released. I suggest get to that version. It has the ability to do automatic registration based on a liberation file. - Thanh M. Kol wrote: > I have downloaded and installed Activelock 2.0.4. Hi, ActiveLock 2.0.5 release is now available at SourceForge <http://activelock.sourceforge.net> With this release, we're officially going into Beta. Any new feature request will have to wait until 2.1. Enjoy! - Thanh |

Kari, You're not doing anything wrong. That's actually a bug in the lockToNone implementation. This bug should be fixed in the upcoming 2.0.5 (beta 1) release. 2.0.5 release should have gone out this past Monday, except I've uncovered in my testings a showstopper issue that I'm trying to resolve. Her'ss a short list of what's in 2.0.5: - play more nicely with other COM+ languages besides VB, will include a working VC++ MFC example. - fix for the often-encountered alugen bug will also be there - fix for lockToNone bug - a couple of security fixes, which I won't disclose just yet - alugen has the ability to save license key directly to .lic file...not sure if this is technically doable yet...this is my showstopper. - Thanh Cybernicus wrote: > Thank you for your reply Thanh. > > 1. Yes, David. You keep re-generating the code until you no longer get the mismatched message when clicking the Validte button. I'll post a new release within the next couple of days that includes the fix for this bug. Watch for it. - Thanh David Hankins wrote: >-----Original Message----- >Hello Thanh > >Yes I have read the article and I am using the alugen.exe from that page. > >I reread the page. Hello Thanh Thanks for the reply. I've been trying to run the test app and I can't get it to work. I've tried several different combinations and still can't get it to register. I've read most of the posts and can't find any techniques that help. Any Ideas? Thanks David |

Hi Joshua, Why do you have to convert ActiveLock to VB.Net? You should be able to import COM libraries into your VB.Net application and use it as-is. I think our tutorial even shows you how it's done...simple matter of adding the reference to the ActiveLock2 library. - Thanh Joshua Foulk wrote: > Is there a compiled .ocx for the new ActiveLock 2??? My guess is that it blew up at the "New ActiveLock2.Globals" code because activelock2.dll wasn't (or couldn't be) registered. Suggestions: - Run depends.exe on activelock2.dll on that win95 machine to find out if any dependencies missing. - perhaps you need to install dcom95 (?) /Thanh Carl Sewell wrote: >Warning: inexperienced user! > >After a little bit of debugging, I have determined that the error is occurring >at this line, not in the function but on this line: > > crc = CRCCheckSumTypeLib(New ActiveLock2.Globals) > >I thought I had lifted the code from Example1 that was included in the >ActiveLock distribution, but it is a little different. Warning: inexperienced user! After a little bit of debugging, I have determined that the error is occurring at this line, not in the function but on this line: crc = CRCCheckSumTypeLib(New ActiveLock2.Globals) I thought I had lifted the code from Example1 that was included in the ActiveLock distribution, but it is a little different. I've included the function below. My question then is why does this work on Win2K but not on Windows 95? Imagehlp.dll is included in the distribution and is on the target system (Windows 95). From the MSKB: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/debug/base/mapf ileandchecksum.asp Requirements Client: Requires Windows XP, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows NT Workstation, Windows Me, Windows 98, or Windows 95. Server: Requires Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000 Server, or Windows NT Server. Unicode: Implemented as Unicode and ANSI versions, except on Windows Me/98/95. Header: Declared in Imagehlp.h. Library: Use Imagehlp.lib. Do I need to (somehow?) include the .lib?!?! And what's that mean about Unicode "except on Windows ME/98/95"? It doesn't work for those platforms? '' ' Performs CRC checksum on the type library containing the object. ' @param obj COM object used to determine the file path to the type library ' Public Function CRCCheckSumTypeLib(obj As IUnknown) As Long Dim strDllPath As String strDllPath = GetTypeLibPathFromObject(obj) Dim HeaderSum As Long, RealSum As Long MapFileAndCheckSum strDllPath, HeaderSum, RealSum CRCCheckSumTypeLib = RealSum End Function And this is defined at the top of the code for the same form. Private Declare Function MapFileAndCheckSum Lib "imagehlp" Alias "MapFileAndCheckSumA" (ByVal FileName As String, HeaderSum As Long, CheckSum As Long) As Long >-----Original Message----- >From: Carl Sewell [mailto:CS...@Hi...] >Sent: Saturday, April 03, 2004 11:38 AM >To: act...@li... >Subject: HELP ME!?!?!?!
