I am using the Microsoft Installer (MSI). It does not appear to change the timestamp, but, I noticed the alcrypto.dll is 0k on an installed app, but 88k on the development machine. I also tried to copy the alcrypto.dll from the dev machine to the app machine, same results. |

Help....lol I got AL to work after getting a correct Vcode. Now, if I install my app on an XP machine, it works fine, but an install on a 98se machine gives a....Run-time error 21477221487.......alcrypto.dll has been tampered. Any clues?? |

First, thanks for your reply. I am having difficulties with AL that I cant seem to work out, beyond what my first e-mail stated. In my vb app, I applied the code suggested in the tutorial, copy and pasted it with changes in the name and version fields. I then generated a product key (v-code) and put that in my app. I could not ever get it to accept the liberation key, it always came back with invalid key. So, I fired up the example app........and cant seem to get it to accept a liberation key either. I am running XP pro. Am I missing something here? |

I need some guidance. I have developed an app(vb6) that I wish to sell via download over the internet. I want the user to be able to install the app and use it immediately (without any kind of registration process) for a trial period of 30 days. During, or after which, they can register (pay through PayPal, then request a Liberation key). I have tried using the tutorials to set this up, but cant seem to get it to work. Can you advise me? Hello All, I know I said before that after Alpha 2, we were going into Beta but, in hindsight, this was not realistic (read the release notes and you'll know why :-)) Anyway, Alpha 3 is available for download on http://sourceforge.net/projects/activelock. Today, the ActiveLock 2 dev team released Alpha 2 after 2 months of hard work, despite glooming rumours that it is still unsecure. We have pretty much stabilized the API and the feature is somewhat complete for practical use, so we figured we'd do a public release. Any further issue, security or otherwise, we'll deal with it in a beta release, which brings me to the next point. This is it for 2.0 features. After this, we'll be going into beta mode, which means no API change and no new features. This is why originally I said that it's a good requirement for version =

Sorry, I was wrong when I said you can use "Lock to random number" =
because this causes the software code you change for every install, as =
you mentioned. So "Lock to Custom String" is probably your only option. =
With this option, you'd generate the key for the customer ahead of time, =
store it in your installer, and have your installer import that key into =
the registry during the install. The reason why I said this is not very =
secure is that your customer can then install as many copies of this =
version as they want even when they've just paid for one copy.=20
Bottom line is, and Mike Thurmond has already pointed this out, you =
can't really do it in ActiveLock 1.x and trying to make it do it will =
make the protection less secure.

Why use StatusBar? This is used during the softwarecode generation =
process, for updating progress status. UpdateStatus() is called from =
modMain.

This seems to be a common confusion, probably because we're bunching =
everything (key generation and registration) into one app.
atViewPort1 is just ust part of the sample app. It bears no significance =
to ActiveLock. In this situation, we use "sample app" to mean a typical =
application that you would lock using AL. If the app hasn't been =
registered, this tab would be disabled. If valid license, this tab =
would be enabled.
In Alpha 2, we will have a separate key generator. Hopefully, this will =
make it less confusing than bunching everything in one app.

Please read the code comments carefully. In there, we've clearly stated =
which part of the code is ActiveLock-specific, and which part is just =
there for demonstration of a sample application that you're locking. Of =

Two. ActiveLock2.dll is the core COM/ActiveX library, and Alcrypto.dll =
is the encryption library used by ActiveLock2.dll.

If the API documentation is not clear enough, please let us know.
We will likely post a .chm version of the doc up for download in the =
