Open Source C# Tunneling Software

The ProtonVPN Windows app project hosts the official open-source client software that lets users securely connect their Windows machines to the ProtonVPN service with full system-wide VPN protection. It includes a modern GUI built with .NET and WPF that lets users authenticate, choose VPN servers, and configure features like split tunneling or kill switch, while a background Windows service manages VPN connections using the OpenVPN protocol and handles networking tasks such as firewall and adapter configuration. The app integrates a custom TAP driver and a split tunnel callout driver to help route traffic securely and prevent leaks, and is structured so the GUI and service components work together to deliver a smooth user experience on Windows desktops and laptops. WgServer for Windows, also known as WS4W, is a Windows desktop application for running and managing a WireGuard server endpoint. It was created to simplify the process of setting up WireGuard on Windows without requiring users to manually edit the registry, run scripts, or configure every networking step through Control Panel. The application can install WireGuard for Windows, generate or accept server keys, create server configuration files, and help manage the Windows networking pieces needed for internet sharing. It is designed for Windows Server and Windows desktop environments where a graphical setup flow is preferred over command-line configuration. The tool still requires users to handle network realities such as router port forwarding, but it reduces much of the local setup friction. File-Tunnel is a tunneling tool that moves TCP connections through a shared file or file server. It is built around the unusual idea that two systems can exchange network data by reading and writing files that both sides can access. This makes it useful in environments where direct TCP connectivity is blocked but a shared folder, FTP server, S3-compatible storage, Dropbox folder, RDP drive share, or similar file channel is available. The project provides portable executables for Windows, Linux, and macOS, which makes it practical for cross-platform testing. Its documentation includes examples for bypassing firewall limitations, tunneling through FTP, using remote internet access, and routing through remote desktop file shares. File-Tunnel is best understood as a specialized connectivity workaround for controlled environments where file access exists but normal network routing does not.

This is a project we - ten students, 16 to 18 years old, and one teacher - are currently working on in the so called "Physik-Projektkurs" at school in which we build and program our own scanning tunneling microscope.
