Squashfs is a highly compressed read-only filesystem for Linux. Squashfs compresses both files, inodes and directories, and supports block sizes up to 1Mbytes for greater compression. It is implemented as a kernel module under VFS.

VeraCrypt is a free disk encryption software brought to you by IDRIX (https://www.idrix.fr) and based on TrueCrypt 7.1a. It adds enhanced security to the algorithms used for system and partitions encryption making it immune to new developments in brute-force attacks. It also solves many vulnerabilities and security issues found in TrueCrypt. This enhanced security adds some delay ONLY to the opening of encrypted partitions without any performance impact to the application use phase. This is acceptable to the legitimate owner but it makes it much harder for an attacker to gain access to the encrypted data. Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN") is a self-contained boot image that securely wipes hard disk drives (HDDs). DBAN is appropriate for personal use, bulk data destruction, or emergency data destruction for HDDs, but is not recommended for solid-state drives (SSDs), sanitization that requires auditable compliance documentation, or technical support.

The Ext2/Ext3/Ext4 Filesystem Utilities (e2fsprogs) contain all of the standard utilities for creating, fixing, configuring , and debugging ext2, ext3, and ext4 filesystems.

Ext2Read is an explorer like utility to explore ext2/ext3/ext4 files. It now supports LVM2 and EXT4 extents. It can be used to view and copy files and folders. It can recursively copy entire folders. It can also be used to view and copy disk and file

Open-source tool to access Amazon S3 file storage. S3cmd is a free command line tool and client for uploading, retrieving and managing data in Amazon S3 and other cloud storage service providers that use the S3 protocol, such as Google Cloud Storage. Lots of features and options have been added to s3cmd since its very first release in 2008.... we recently counted more than 60 command line options, including multipart uploads, encryption, incremental backup, s3 sync, ACL and Metadata management, S3 bucket size, bucket policies, and more!

This project serves as a collection of different free software projects that I'm working on. The major ones are currently "HFSExplorer", "DMGExtractor", and "NTFS-3G for Mac OS X".

AVFS is a system, which enables all programs to look inside gzip, tar, zip, etc. files or view remote (ftp, http, dav, etc.) files, without recompiling the programs.

Extundelete is a utility to undelete files from an ext3 or ext4 partition.

cramfs is a Linux filesystem designed to be simple, small, and to compress things well. It is used on a number of embedded systems and small devices.

The Deduplicating Warp-speed Advanced Read-only File System. A fast high compression read-only file system for Linux and Windows. DwarFS is a read-only file system with a focus on achieving very high compression ratios in particular for very redundant data. This probably doesn't sound very exciting, because if it's redundant, it should compress well. However, I found that other read-only, compressed file systems don't do a very good job at making use of this redundancy. See here for a comparison with other compressed file systems. DwarFS also doesn't compromise on speed and for my use cases, I've found it to be on par with or perform better than SquashFS. For my primary use case, DwarFS compression is an order of magnitude better than SquashFS compression, it's 6 times faster to build the file system, it's typically faster to access files on DwarFS and it uses less CPU resources.

CDemu - a virtual CD/DVD drive for Linux. Project includes Linux kernel module & userspace utilities.

FATSort is a small utilitiy for Linux that sorts directory structures of FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 and exFAT file systems. It is written in C and can be run from the command line.

Collectl is a light-weight performance monitoring tool capable of reporting interactively as well as logging to disk. It reports statistics on cpu, disk, infiniband, lustre, memory, network, nfs, process, quadrics, slabs and more in easy to read format.

Partclone is a project like the well-known backup utility "Partition Image" a.k.a partimage. Partclone provide utilities to back up used blocks and design for higher compatibility of the file system using supported library like e2fslibs.

The Digital Forensic Tool Testing (DFTT) project creates test images for digital forensic acquisition and analysis tools. These images can be used by a tool developers and owners to test their software.

CurlFtpFS is a filesystem for acessing ftp hosts based on FUSE and libcurl. Automatically reconnects if the server times out.

s3fs allows Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD to mount an S3 bucket via FUSE. s3fs preserves the native object format for files, allowing use of other tools like AWS CLI. Large subset of POSIX including reading/writing files, directories, symlinks, mode, uid/gid, and extended attributes. Compatible with Amazon S3, and other S3-based object stores. Allows random writes and appends, large files via multi-part upload, and renames via server-side copy. User-specified regions, including Amazon GovCloud. Many systems provide pre-built packages. s3fs supports the standard AWS credentials file stored in the credentials folder. Alternatively, s3fs supports a custom passwd file. The default location for the s3fs password file can be created. Generally S3 cannot offer the same performance or semantics as a local file system.

httpfs depends on FUSE. It uses HTTP/1.1 extensions to read arbitrary bytes from a file on a web-server. This is particular interesting for an iso, since it can be investigated (loop device) without actually downloading the whole iso.

The Sleuth Kit is a C++ library and collection of open source file system forensics tools that allow you to, among other things, view allocated and deleted data from NTFS, FAT, FFS, EXT2, Ext3, HFS+, and ISO9660 images.

BackupPC is a high-performance, enterprise-grade backup system for backing up Linux, WinXX PCs, Macs and laptops to a server's disk. Features include clever pooling of identical files, no client-side software, and a powerful Apache/CGI user interface.

fd is a program to find entries in your filesytem. It is a simple, fast and user-friendly alternative to find. While it does not aim to support all of find's powerful functionality, it provides sensible (opinionated) defaults for a majority of use cases. First, to get an overview of all available command line options, you can either run fd -h for a concise help message or fd --help for a more detailed version. fd is designed to find entries in your filesystem. The most basic search you can perform is to run fd with a single argument: the search pattern. Instead of just showing the search results, you often want to do something with them. fd provides two ways to execute external commands for each of your search results: the -x/--exec option runs an external command for each of the search results (in parallel), or the -X/--exec-batch option launches the external command once, with all search results as arguments.
