Vifm is a file manager with curses interface, which provides Vim-like environment for managing objects within file systems, extended with some useful ideas from mutt. If you use Vim, Vifm gives you complete keyboard control over your files without having to learn a new set of commands.

FileRunner is a two pane file manager for Unix and Unix like systems. It is simple and efficient and has a built-in FTP and SFTP client. It also does a reasonable (and improving) job on Windows systems. New and improved from a FileRunner of long ago.

Eagle Mode is a zoomable user interface (ZUI) with file manager, file viewers, games, and more. This project is about a futuristic style of human-computer interaction, where the user can visit almost everything simply by zooming in. It features a portable C++ toolkit API for developing such ZUIs, and it features the Eagle Mode application, which provides a virtual cosmos with plugin applications. The most important one is the professional file manager with its rich, scriptable command set. It integrates file viewers for most of the common file types, as well as an audio and video player. Furthermore, the virtual cosmos contains a chess game, a netwalk game, a 3D minesweeper game, a multi-function clock, a stock watchlist, some fractals, and a Linux kernel configurator in form of a kernel patch.

XFile is a compact file manager for Unix and alike systems running X11. It presents the file system as is, without imaginary locations, trashcans etc. XFile uses its own file type/association database in typical Unix/RC like syntax, which is easily editable. Mounting support for file systems defined in fstab, and integration with mount daemons that manage a dedicated media directory is also included. Easy-to-use multi-platform disk cataloguing program supporting local or removable media - drives and folders. Uses XML files as a data storage. It was originally created in 2010 to catalogue software compilations (also called freeware compilations) and CDs distributed with computer magazines. It was later improved to support any kind of disk and folder. It can be used to catalogue fragile disks like CDs, floppies, external hard drives, usb sticks, memory cards which are easy to damage. Cataloguing enables user to check what they contain without putting them physically into drive and avoid a possibility of a mechanical damage. Download package consists of a jar file and a Eclipse project with a full source code. No installation is required. You can copy this program anywhere or transfer it to another computer. A file manager for the Unix terminal. Unlike most file managers out there, based on the TUI, CliFM is entirely based on command-line. It is also ultra-lightweight, lightning fast, extensible, and written in C.

Fpart is a tool that helps you sort file trees and pack them into bags (called "partitions"). It is developped in C and available under the BSD license. It splits a list of directories and file trees into a certain number of partitions, trying to produce partitions with the same size and number of files. It can also produce partitions with a given number of files or a limited size. Once generated, partitions are either printed as file lists to stdout (default) or to files. Those lists can then be used by third party programs. Fpart also includes a live mode, which allows it to crawl very large filesystems and produce partitions in live. Hooks are available to act on those partitions (e.g. immediatly start a transfer using rsync(1)) without having to wait for the filesystem traversal job to be finished. Used this way, fpart can be seen as a powerful data migration tool.

lxSplit is a tool for splitting files and joining the splitted files on unix-like platforms. It is fully compatible with hjsplit, a tool which is available for other operating systems.

pam_mount is a Pluggable Authentication Module that can mount volumes for a user session (login). Supports mounting local filesystems of any kind the normal mount utility supports, with extra code to better support CIFS, FUSE, various crypto, and more.

DavUtils is a collection of easy to use WebDAV client tools. The built-in client-side encryption allows you to encrypt and decrypt files on the fly with AES. Currently two command line tools are available: dav is a multipurpose WebDAV client that can be used like the standard unix tools ls, mkdir and rm. The other tool is dav-sync that can synchronize local files with a WebDAV server. It is very flexible and configurable and has advanced data safety features to prevent data loss. Sample is the missing link in the POSIX-compliant cron-family of task scheduling tools. Sample monitors files on a user-by-user basis and waits for their timestamp/filesize to hit a threshold thereby executing a specified command to handle the files.
