SSHGuard protects hosts from brute-force attacks against SSH and other services. It aggregates system logs and blocks repeat offenders using several firewall backends, including iptables, ipfw, and pf.

fwknop stands for the "FireWall KNock OPerator", and implements an authorization scheme called Single Packet Authorization (SPA). This method of authorization is based around a default-drop packet filter (fwknop supports iptables and firewalld on Linux, ipfw on FreeBSD and Mac OS X, and PF on OpenBSD) and libpcap. SPA is essentially next-generation port knocking (more on this below). Comcast is merely a thin wrapper around these controls. Windows support may be possible with wipfw or even the native network stack, but this has not yet been implemented in Comcast and may be at a later date. On Linux, Comcast supports several options: device, latency, target/default bandwidth, packet loss, protocol, and port number.
