SourceForge as a trusted partner for open source, welcomes Open Source projects to distribute their releases via SourceForge even if that code is developed elsewhere. Back in 2012 we started supporting other ecosystems like BerliOS. Further, we provided options for projects hosted on Github when they changed their file upload feature-set.
We then extended that offer to projects hosted on Google Code when Google decided to deprecate the download part of the Google Code service. And later, to make it even easier, our team created an import facility for Google Code projects to fully migrate to SourceForge or just distribute their downloads via SourceForge.
To date, we have welcomed over 100 projects from Google Code; these projects have used our tool to import either their whole project or just portions to SourceForge. One such project, mplayerx, has done so and their community has jumped right in, staying up-to-date on their latest release for OSX.
While today is Google’s deadline for deprecating their download service, our Google Code Importer will continue to be available to projects who want to migrate from Google Code well after today.
