On this day in 1938 American computer scientist and the “father of computer graphics” Ivan Sutherland was born. Sutherland is the inventor and developer of MIT’s Sketchpad, a revolutionary computer program that pioneered human-computer interaction. It is considered to be the ancestor of modern computer-aided design, and a major contributor to the development of the graphical user interface as well as modern object oriented programming. Sutherland received many prestigious awards for his contributions, including the Turing Award from the Association for Computing Machinery and the Kyoto Prize in Advanced Technology.

Sutherland alongside David C. Evans also co-founded the Evans & Sutherland computer firm and the computer science department at the University of Utah. They, along with their students went on to invent several foundations of modern computer graphics.

Todos los mensajes y los documentos que se publican a través de la red, Internet y correo electrónico, solo serían mensajes de texto. No habría imágenes y gráficos. En esto radica la contribución importante de Ivan Sutherland, científico informático de los Estados Unidos, inventor de varios fundamentos gráficos de computadora.
