Game at a glance
Worms 3D takes the familiar turn-based artillery action from the Worms series and places it into fully three-dimensional arenas. You guide a squad of cartoonish but deadly worms against either human opponents or AI-controlled teams, employing a variety of weapons and gadgets to eliminate the enemy.
Platforms it's available on
Originally released on several consoles and computers, the title has been made available for:
- Xbox
- PlayStation 2
- GameCube
- Multiple desktop operating systems
Core mechanics
Each match starts with teams of worms; names are assigned randomly unless you load a custom roster. Every worm begins with 100 health points and a selection of weapons. During your turn you position, aim and fire or use equipment to chip away at enemy HP until all opposing worms reach zero — at which point your team wins.
Arsenal and tools
Weapons and utilities include (descriptions shortened):
- Machine gun — rapid-fire small damage for positioning and crowd control
- Parachute — slows a falling worm, useful for precision movement
- Grenade — timed explosive useful for bouncing into cover
- Bazooka — long-range rocket for heavy single-target damage
Single-player campaign
The solo mode offers a structured set of challenges: there are 35 missions that introduce objectives and scenarios beyond standard matches. It provides a focused single-player experience but is relatively limited once you finish the mission set.
Local multiplayer and replay value
Worms 3D shines in same-screen competitive or cooperative play, providing chaotic matches with friends or family. However, it does not include online multiplayer, which reduces replayability for players who prefer internet-based matches.
Closing summary
If you enjoy physics-based, strategic artillery games with local multiplayer fun, Worms 3D is entertaining. For those who want persistent online competition or longer-lived single-player content, more recent or paid entries in the franchise may be a better fit.
