Product snapshot
Quick Assist is a complimentary remote-access utility provided by Microsoft for Windows PCs. It enables one user to either view and interact with another person’s desktop or allow their own machine to be controlled by a helper. The app is designed for straightforward, short-term support sessions.
Starting a remote session
To begin, one of the two participants must sign in with a Microsoft account. That device will generate a temporary access code which must be shared with the other party. For security reasons the code expires after 10 minutes, so connections are established quickly and intentionally.
Main capabilities
- View the remote screen and request control to actively troubleshoot issues.
- Add annotations and drawings on the shared display to clarify steps.
- Use a laser-pointer tool to point out specific on-screen elements.
- Establish a session fast thanks to a minimal setup and a transient access code.
- Pause or terminate the connection when the support task is finished.
Session management and safety
The brief lifespan of the connection code and the requirement to sign in provide layers of protection for both sides. During an active session, the person receiving help can see what the helper is doing and can revoke control or end the connection at any time.
Why people choose it
Because it’s easy to set up, free, and built into the Windows ecosystem, Quick Assist is a convenient option for ad hoc technical support or teaching someone how to use an application without needing additional software.
