Turn your smartphone into a webcam
iVCam is a free utility that lets you use a phone or tablet as the camera for your desktop or laptop. Instead of relying on a built-in or clip-on webcam, the app streams the higher-quality cameras found in many handheld devices to a Windows PC, giving clearer video and more configuration options for online calls, recordings, or monitoring.
Compatible platforms and devices
- Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11 PCs (including 64-bit systems)
- iPhone and iPad (iOS)
- Android phones and tablets
- Microsoft mobile devices
Notable capabilities
- Supports high-resolution output up to 4K, and standard sizes such as 1080p, 720p, 540p, 480p, and 360p.
- Lets you switch between front and rear cameras in real time and choose portrait, landscape, or night modes.
- Can act as a wireless microphone in place of your computer’s mic.
- Multiple phones can be connected to the same PC simultaneously (multi-instance support).
- Useful as a temporary security monitor (baby or pet camera) thanks to continuous streaming and camera switching.
Installing and connecting
- Install the desktop client on your PC and the companion app on the phone or tablet.
- Grant the mobile app permission to access the camera and microphone when prompted.
- Open the app on both devices and choose a connection method: USB or Wi‑Fi.
- When both apps detect each other, the desktop client will notify you and show the live feed.
If you select Wi‑Fi, the two apps typically discover each other and pair automatically over the local network.
Using iVCam with conferencing tools
After the feed is active on your PC, press the play/start button to stream the camera to the computer. Most webcam-aware programs will accept the iVCam input automatically. To use it with Zoom, for example, open Zoom Settings → Video and pick iVCam from the Camera dropdown. The same approach works for Skype, Teams, browser-based video calls, and other apps that let you choose a camera source.
Free vs. paid features and tips
- A free tier is available with many useful functions; a paid upgrade unlocks the full feature set.
- The app can improve visual quality by using your device’s native camera features (manual focus, flash).
- Visit the official website for updates, privacy and copyright information, and support resources.
