This is a program to track amateur radio weather spotters for SkyWarn by displaying a map of the watch area on which the user can place virtual pushpins and info where the location of the storm spotters are, whether they be stationary or mobile.

I uploaded the initial Alpha release today. There is no installer and currently no "easy" way to import the county and road maps that are used for your watch area. It is currently setup for Monroe County, Indiana. This is being released as a very early alpha, so expect there to be bugs (please report them) and expect there to be few features, yet please give it a try and let us know what you think. This version is currently known to work with Windows and Java 1.4 (you must have java 1.4 due to the xml used in WX Spotter Track). I am having problems getting this to run under Linux, but it is a definate "must have". Unpack the zipfile and run "bin\spotter.bat"
Finally! This is VERY alpha and in early development.. I'm using CVS here so I can backtrack to a somewhat working model if necessary, however if you know what you are doing and want to play around, feel free! The user interface right now is using the default OpenMap interface. My plan is to change this and use the OpenMap map bean in my own GUI. Cheers!
Okay, so I have now found a free resource of shape files with roads on them (thanks to census data) that can be used in the OpenMap framework. This means that maps could be imported without costing anybody lots of money (or any at all). So what does this mean? Well, I am starting to modify OpenMap and extend it to have a pushpin layer. I will hopefully have a very alpha model posted here in a few weeks.
