OSDA allows open source developers to have certainty as to who owns the intellectual property of their software. Luke Mewburn, a core NetBSD developer and SAGE-AU Vice President, and Geoff Halprin, a SAGE committee member and ex-SAGE-AU committee member helped bring this baby into the world over a two year period. Four clauses are available for insertion into new contracts, and a letter is available for people already employed, so it's likely that we have a clause that will work for you. However, if you do modify the clauses, or have another one ready for inclusion, please think of submitting them to the project here on SourceForge. The OSDA clauses were written by a law firm specializing in IP, as well as using a clause from a US firm (based out of New York state). Therefore the contracts should be okay for people in Australia and NY. As always, get the entire contract looked at by your lawyer before signing, particularly when submitting new clauses. The main web site at http://www.sage-au.org.au/osda/ has all the details. We are actively looking for translations and new jurisdictions to implement these ideas/clauses, and will gladly accept new additions.
