DownloadjEdit is a programmer's text editor written in Java. It uses the Swing toolkit for the GUI and can be configured as a rather powerful IDE through the use of its plugin architecture.

What a great editor. I don't understand why it is not more in widespread use. I like it as much as emacs or vi. And writing your own macros is easy and very powerful ; it's much easier than in emacs !

JEdit is developed for long time. It really worth to learn it. It works perfectly on multiple platform (Mac, Win Linux) and make easier to switch between platforms.
