  A very good tool for the .Net developer. Not really ideal for non-programmer users though. A windows installer and some configuration screens would go a long way in making it one more accessible to less technical people.

• Helium Reporter Adds Drilldown Capabilities

  Starting with version 0.3b, Helium Reporter supports drilldown hyperlinks in reports. This provides an easy mechanism to create reports with intuitive progressive filtering. When a user runs a drilldown-enabled report, designated data is displayed with hyperlinks that add the displayed values to the report criteria when they are clicked. This enables users to quickly locate specific information in large sets of data. • Helium Reporter Gaining Popularity

  Press Release: Since its initial introduction at the end of 2008, Helium Reporter has steadily been gaining recognition. Downloads from its host site, SourceForge.net have increased by over 100% since February, 2009 with a large jump in downloads after the latest release in mid March. What is Helium Reporter? It is a development tool that makes the tedious task of creating reports simple. "But it is not for everyone", says one of Heilum's developers, Matthew Roberts. "Helium is intended for a fairly technical audience that is comfortable working directly in a SQL database with stored procedures and T-SQL queries". But the payoff for developers is great. "If you can write a stored procedure, then you can create a report", he says. The real value of Helium Reporter is the "hands free" user interface. It can create professionally formatted reports with a minimum of effort. In fact, a new report can be created in less than five minutes. This is great news for developers who hate having to create multiple reports on data that their applications manage because it allows them to focus on their development tasks more and on reporting less. Is it flexible? Absolutely. "If you want to go a step farther and customize the formatting, that is easily handled through standard Cascading Stylesheets" says Mr. Roberts. "You can also link reports together via data hyperlinks for drilldown capabilities...even linking a report back to itself with filtering parameters in hyperlink". Helium Reporter is available for free under the GNU Open Source license. You can even modify the ASP.Net code if needed to add custom features that may not be included in the current version.   The newest version of Helium Reporter has been released. A super-lightweight (less than 200 KB) reporting tool for SQL Server. Helium is a front-end that provides HTML reporting capabilities based on specially constructed SQL stored procedures. This release adds the following additional features: * Updated to VS 2005 project format. * Added automatic data hyperlink detection. * Added column sorting. * Added custom stylesheets for individual report formatting. * Improved default stylesheet for better generic display of reports. * Updated SQL script for creating required database objects. * Updated installation and configuration documentation with lots of new examples and screenshots. Helium Reporter is an open source ASP.Net project written in VB.Net, making customization easy for .Net developers.
