I recently got Gimp for osX and like it so far but I have one HUGE issue. The images I work on require me to copy a selection and paste it onto a new layer, but when I do so either copying ALL or just a selection it pastes a selection I had from the last image I had open and not my new selection.
whats wrong or what am I doing wrong.

to follow your ordering...
1) I've patched gegl-init.c with the relative path ../../Library/Application Support/Gimp and ran a test.
So far, gegl created it's directories in GIMP2_DIRECTORY, but still creates './local/share' and '.cache' too. This is because the path isn't expanded/collapsed by the routines but taken literally and walked through :-(

...besides some issues with the Snow Loepard and Leopard versions, I'm working on an update for Tiger systems.
Please be patient. I will release an update for Tiger users too, although this is somehow of a, let's say, minor priority to me.

oohh, that's really weird!!
My system:
Mac OS X: 10.6.2
X11: 2.3.4
running GIMP 2.6.7p3 for Leopard:
files are in alphabetical order. Everything fine, just like suv-sj has reported.
running GIMP 2.6.7p1 for SnowLeopard
files are somehow sorted by length -> alphabetical -> lower case -> upper case -> ???
