How do midi controllers affect the sound in zynaddsubfx, especially the "expression" midi controller (controller #11)? I have a wind controller device (a Yamaha Wx7) which I've had for quite a while. I had programmed some patches for the wind controller on my Ensoniq Esq 1 synth. The wind controller emits a stream of midi breath control messages (controller #2) whenever the air pressure on the mouthpiece changes. I would program the patches so that when air pressure increases I increase the volume and also increase the "intensity". I usually turn off the effect of key velocity on volume except maybe for how it affects initial transients. What I mean by "intensity" would depend on the patch but usually involves opening up the filter when intensity increases. Also, sometimes I have also done things like add another brighter tone to the mix or change the vibrato frequency. I would like to be able to do some of this with zynaddsubfx. So far I haven't found any documentation on what effect midi controllers have in zynaddsubfx and definitely have not seen anything that looks like one is able to program the effect that a midi controller has. I see that midi controller #2 == breath control doesn't look like it is recognized by zynaddsubfx. However "expression" (controller #11) sounds like it is what I want and I can send the midi stream through a processer that converts controller #2 to controller #11. However I still do not know what effect "expression" has on tone in zynaddsubfx and particularly if it is possible to do any programming of the effect. Is any of this possible on zynaddsubfx? If it makes any difference I am using a laptop running UbuntuStudio 14.04. For this project I was hoping to substitute a software synth running on a laptop to the ESQ 1, so I could use the wind controller at gigs without having to lug around the heavy synth.
