I have TightVNC installed on a network with three computers, a HP T5710 thin client, and two desktop PCs. The Thin Client is running XPe and is a telephone server. The two PCs are running Linux. What I like about TightVNC is that it works across the two platforms on the network. The three computers are connected through a wired router. Where I have problems is that the router address occasionally changes. Last week it was 192.168.1.104 and yesterday I could not access it (the password screen didn't appear when I clicked on the icon for the script) so I checked the address with "nmap -sP 192.168.1.0/24" and it was now 192.168.1.101. Changing the script to the changed address solved my problem. But, I would really like to lock the address so it didn't change. Is this possible?? I am guessing that the change occurred when I disconnected the Thin Client for a test and then plugged it back in. I don't really know the time line as I wasn't watching it since I didn't expect to have things change. -- Jim Isbell "If you are not living on the edge, well then, you are just taking up too much space." |
