TightVNC is an improved version of VNC, great free remote-desktop tool. The improvements include bandwidth-friendly "Tight" encoding, file transfers in the Windows version, enhanced GUI, many bugfixes, and more.

Great program, except when remoting into a vista machine and the UAC pops up. You lose connection.

On my home lan, with switch, b/w 1gig NiC and 100Mbit NIC, TightVNC was slower than PCAnwhere. It slower than using, via internet feed, LogMeInFree (I have ADSL2+ feed). I could well have a VNC, firewall or port setting incorrect. As a free program, I am appreciative to the developer. When I find the program works swiftly for me, I will show my appreciation with helping with development costs. Keep at it, don't give up. I love the generosity of people like yourself.
