I installed VNC1.2.9 server on a WinXP-home system to help provide remote support at a friend's house. Since there is no cable/dsl close enough to reach their rural residence, they use a wireless ISP, but use wires inside the house. ISP provides a static ip, so connecting to VNC server is not a problem; desktop does appear normally. But after a few seconds (perhaps up to one minute), I get no more screen updates from the remote system. Remote system is still working; because I can disconnect and reconnect anytime; but it still stops working after a period of time too short to get anything useful done on the remote system. I run 1.2.9 client on Win98 with /8-bit option; my dsl connection is rated at 1.0 megabit, but we only get about 0.75 throughput on a good day. I'm not sure what the bandwidth for the wireless ISP is, but it's not great - rather slow actually; but I thought VNC should work anyway. Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? |
