This is a more realistic test: $ time for ((x=0; x<100; x++)); do ufraw-batch --embedded-image tmp/dsc_0113.nef --overwrite --size=100 --silent --out-type=jpeg; done real 0m13.871s user 0m12.737s sys 0m0.600s $ time for ((x=0; x<100; x++)); do ufraw-batch --embedded-image tmp/dsc_0113.nef --overwrite --size=100 --silent --out-type=png; done real 0m14.247s user 0m13.345s sys 0m0.524s I don't remember the size gnome uses. --size=100 should be the right order of magnitude. In any case, the difference is negligible. The advantage of the jpeg output is that the file is much smaller, 4K instead of 16K. But if I'm correct and Gnome anyway converts and saves it as png, then it is better to generate the png right away. Udi |
