Dear TWiki administrator: TWiki Release 5.0.0-rc1 is available for download from the TWiki.org website. This is the first release candidate of the upcoming TWiki 5.0.0 Production Release, aka Helsinki Release. We invite you to test this version in your environment; however, it is NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PRODUCTION USE. We will release 5.0.0 in the next few weeks. Download 5.0.0-rc1 package from: http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Codev/TWikiRelease05x00x00rc1 ______________________________________________________________ ---++ CHANGES, UPGRADE AND BETA TESTING TWiki 5.0 (code named Helsinki) has these enhancements: * New TopMenuSkin with pulldown menus for usability and corporate/ modern look&feel. * Feature enhancements to strengthen TWiki as an application platform, such as using the query syntax within the format="" of a SEARCH . * Bundling additional plugins and skin to strengthen TWiki as an enterprise collaboration platform * Usability/feature enhancements to core TWiki and bundled plugins. * OpenID 2.0 integration allowing users to login with a Google/ Yahoo/etc account (separate download.) * Many bug fixes. The release notes and TWiki history are not ready yet, but the TWiki software is. This release is based on twiki/trunk in Subversion; it has been running quite stable for a long time as our bug tracker TWiki, so we expect not too many gochas. Nevertheless, we DO NOT RECOMMEND to use this rc1 version in a production environment. You can install and run the rc1 in parallel with your current installation by sym-linking the non-default webs (data AND pub dir) - or maybe a small selection - and ask your power users to try it out. To upgrade from an earlier version follow the instructions at http://develop.twiki.org/~twiki4/cgi-bin/view/TWiki/TWikiUpgradeGuide We invite you get involved in the Beta testing process, please visit and contribute at http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Codev/TWikiBetaTesting ______________________________________________________________ ---++ TWIKI DEVELOPER COMMUNITY Are you a developer, tech writer or marketeer with interest in open source? Have you ever participated in an open source community? It's lots of fun to collaborate on a common goal. The twiki.org community is looking for additional contributors. As a contributor you can actively make a difference and help shape the product. To get started: * http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Codev/TWikiMarketing - for marketing * http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Codev/ReadmeFirst - for TWiki core code * http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Plugins/ReadmeFirst - for extensions (plugins, skins, add-ons) We'd love to get you involved! We are building up momentum since we introduced a new governance model in October 2008. For example, we had 10-20 checkins/month at the end of 2008, now we are at around 60 (statistics based on activity metrics on Ohloh.net). We also invite contributors of a related fork to participate in both projects (as some already do). * http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Blog/BlogEntry200911x2 - facts addressing FUD that TWiki is dead * http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/TWiki/RelatedSoftwareProjects - related projects and their conduct * http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Codev/TWikiGovernance - governance * http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/TWiki/TWikiCodeOfConduct - code of conduct ______________________________________________________________ ---++ TWIKI USER COMMUNITY Wouldn't it be great to meet fellow TWiki champions in your neighborhood to exchange ideas and best practices?
