The examples in the spec page for gap (http://www.tei-c.org/release/doc/tei-p5-doc/en/html/ref-gap.html) both use @extent with a simple number instead of @quantity, as the guidelines recommend. I propose to just change the two examples to use @quantity, if there are no objections.
(And maybe add an example showing the correct use of @extent, or is that better avoided since it's not recommended usage anyway?)
Good idea indeed. Those examples are the first thing you see when you're wondering how to use <space>, and I've followed them myself and done <space extent="1" unit="cm"/>. I didn't realize that was strictly speaking wrong.
Okay, I'll take this ticket, fix the two examples in gap and try to add a more basic example in space as well.
