In your case, there is already a bug filed in launchpad about this:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synfigstudio/+bug/72004

Unfortunately synfigstudio is an unsupported package (universe) in
ubuntu so I'm not sure if it is possible to get it fixed, short of using
feisty instead of edgy, or compiling it yourself.
