Has anyone put any thought into the best way to create a "Diff Tool" ?

Before I switched from data studio i used this quite a bit;  Basically it
would extract DDL from two hosts into the client side, and then create a
chart displaying objects that have differences/etc.

Lately I've just been trying to script things to extract a bunch of DDL into
a directory, then using vimdiff to look at the differences.  Its not quite
as convienennt but its been getting the job done.

What do you guys think?
