Discuss SDM 3.0 - what are your ideas?

We are currently planning the next major release of SecureDataManager (password manager). We would like the user base feedback and ideas. What would you like to see different? the same? new features? etc. SDM 3.0 is planned to be a secured networked version where you can run your own server to host your passwords and bookmarks, etc.

JDK support update - only 1.4

Due to the time and effort to support other versions of the JDK within the current release of SDM, we will now only support the latest JDK (1.4).

In the future, we will most likely release a different front end to support hand held devices. These 2 products will be completely different except for the core functionality.

Feedback requested

If you download the application, please submit any feedback for us that can help us improve the application.

JVM's supported = 1.4 (but soon backwards compatible)

We will be creating other releases that support different JVMs and earlier JDKs (1.3). These version will not support all features, but will still function as needed.

Bug in Beta

There have been only a few small bugs found in the latest beta software. Also, we have left any error being printed to the console so that we can debug easily. This will be disabled in the future release. Some exceptions are suppose to occur, but you shouldn't see the message.

Currently, the 'New File' doesn't work because the sdm.sdm file is out of date. However, you don't need the to hit new file, since the application starts up in a new state.

We might add 1 or 2 more features before 1.0, but only minor ones. After 1.0, we will evaluate the list of feature requests and determine the next few releases. We encourage you to Monitor the file releases so you can hear when the next release comes out.

0.5 Update (again)

Well, we are moving it forward, but slowly. Several features are being worked on, however, the data model is being 'revisited' and might end up as pure XML or we might simply dump the data to XML.

0.5 Release Update

Since I'm not getting much help on the project and I've been busy with other things, 0.5 has been delayed for a little bit. It will probably be out at the end of Jan. I've already added the export to CSV format. Search is the main feature missing. Once it is added, I'll probably release the code as Beta and request feedback before going 1.0.

0.3 is out 0.4 is coming fast!

I'm adding in the features a lot more quickly. Let me know if anyone else would like to help. :)

Use the Tasks

Please create tasks if you think something needs to be done. Everyone on development should have the ability to create more tasks. If you need a task completed before you can work on your piece, let it be known.

Let me know how you would like us to do general communication between us all... mailing list or forums?

Open Discussion Forum has some open questions about GUI.
