That fix hasn't been commited yet. Because I think it is a good one, I took
the liberty to do that.

The "echo" man-page doesn't mention \x, so I don't know if it's ANSI. The
bash-buildin "printf" however does mention the \xhhh (note the 3 h-s, it
doesn't make sense for hexadecimals). A \xhh could be implemented as easely
as \0ooo. Shall I do that?
