It's moderately reliable. I use it for serious work all the time. Sometime I find bugs and have to work around them, but in truth I've found it better than some commercial compilers. There's a lot of work going on to improve it all the time. I contributed a patch to add support for a bunch of processors including the 16C745 just the other day so support for this processor will hopefully appear soon. You may want to wait for that.
