Thank you for looking at my problem.  I do not think
that your suggestion has not fixed my problem. 
Defining size_t like this:

#define size_t unsigned int

and commenting the reference to stddef.h does gives the
same error as if I pointed to the gcc version of
stddef.h.  We also tried defining size_t with
"typedef".  The error is below:
