There is no ui for changing the colours. Screem makes use of gtksourceview though, so you can change the colours by editing the highlighting files. GEdit has a ui for changing colours, but the changes only effect GEdit. It wasn't working properly the last time I looked at it so it hasn't been added to Screem at the moment. Not sure if they highlighting is the problem, check the same files in GEdit, if it isn't slow there then the problem is more likely to be Screem trying to find the doctype or character set of the file. This is much improved in my current codebase, but not in CVS yet.
