The change I have in mind is to improve show_desktop mode so that sticky windows also gets hidden, and only windows of type DESKTOP or DOCK is shown. This will only mean some changes in workspace.c and I think your work will be in client.c (the windowplacement code), so it should be no problem with clashing patches.
