Then just use pladv (as suggested by Werner) to generate each page of your
plot and file family output (which turns every page into a file). See
http://plplot.sourceforge.net/docbook-manual/plplot-html-5.9.5/output-devices.html.

N.B. not all devices support file familying, but I know that, e.g., -dev
pngcairo and -dev pngqt (which are our highest quality png devices)
support file familying.
