Instead of your Makefile change, note the preferred method is to change Makefile.am to do the same thing. I read your post in a mad rush, but I think all you have to do is replace extra_ldflags = in the darwin_os stanza with extra_ldflags = $(PYTHON_LDFLAGS) Unfortunately, I am right in the middle of some high-priority research so I am hoping Hazen will step forward to automate your work in cvs. The four file changes should be to replace cf/ac_python_devel.m4 with the "pure python" version I attached to my previous e-mail, change cf/python.ac like you suggested (except confirm/check only the appropriate directory for Python.h where that directory is determined from the "pure python" ac_python_devel.m4 results), change bindings/python/Makefile.am as above, and update INSTALL to reflect how to get apple python to work. Once those changes are in cvs, I will be happy (in a couple weeks when I should be able to take a short break from my current research push) to make sure the changes don't interfere with the python interface on the Linux side of things.
